What do you do if your content strategy consulting business is failing to attract clients?
Your ability to attract clients to a content strategy business depends on...great content strategy. If you have a lull in your business, circle back and make sure your own content strategy (and your actual content) is top-notch, before you do any more marketing/outreach. The fact that you can attract clients with your content strategy will speak for itself.

What do you do if your response to feedback in copywriting is defensive?
Remind everyone at the table that good copywriting is based on customer data. It's not important that copy appeals to the writer or even the client. Copy needs to appeal to the client's customer. Those are the people who will make buying decisions. If the copy has been writing using data gleaned from customer surveys and interviews, then the question is really not "Do we like it?" but, "Will it convert?"

What do you do if your copywriting project requires problem-solving skills?
The most important piece(s) of information in copywriting research come from "voice of customer" research. Guessing about what your client's customer thinks will only lead to another round of poor copy. You need exit surveys from website visitors who did and did not convert, as well as from people who did and did not buy a product or service after subscribing to your client's email list, etc. At the very least, take your client's product to a coffee shop and ask people to give you their impressions of it. What specific words and phrases do products testers and survey completers use to describe your client's product? These are the words you need to use in your copy

How do you stay productive as a writer?
Everyday, I spend five minutes on marketing before I write anything. For me, that means cold outreach to a potential client and/or circling back to touch base with a previous client. I have a recurring task that pops up every weekday morning to remind me to do this, and a few outreach templates attached to that same pop-up. Five minutes, and my marketing is finished. It's easy to let this go when I'm flush with work, but in order to keep the pipeline of work full, it must be done.
