We look at the concrete efficiency, methodology, and extent of strength after using sawdust. We can use sawdust in different ways; one of them is a mixture of concrete. The concrete is made with the addition of sawdust is called as sawdust concrete. In this type of concrete, the Dry Sawdust is used to replace the fine aggregate and Sawdust Ash can be used to replace small quantity of the cement. Along with that wood chips can be used to replace coarse aggregates. India has 1,790+ VCs to fund local startups and entrepreneurs to fuel innovation and digital transformation, supporting their $3.5 Trillion GDP. Bangladesh, with a GDP of $450 billion (7.8 times smaller than India), would require 232 VCs to support the local entrepreneurial ecosystem. How many VCs do we have in Bangladesh to support one of the fastest-growing nations in the world? Even a founder in Dhaka will struggle to name 5 VCs in Bangladesh who are available with a sizeable fund to invest even in the early stages. This clearly says a lot about the challenges founders are struggling with despite their talent and willingness to take a leap of faith and build for our country's next decades. I certainly don't have an explanation for why we don't have the minimum number of VCs we need to accelerate innovation and entrepreneurship. But really, only 5 VCs that we can name? Of these, 50% don't even have a successful track record of funding some truly high-performing ventures. What do you think is wrong with our ecosystem? I recently joined the Mahavir Foundation Trust as a Mentor for the Open Scholarship Programme, one of the many initiatives run by MFT. Through this program, we provide scholarships to deserving, financially less privileged students. It has been a heart-touching experience, seeing how dedicated these students are to their studies. They excel under circumstances most of us would struggle with if we were in their place. These students put all their dedication and hard work into academics because they know education is their best chance to improve their lives. At MFT, we are simply supporting these determined young minds in their journey. Let’s be clear, we are NOT doing charity here. What we are doing is fulfilling a responsibility that every individual has as a human being: to help others within our capacity. We do not discriminate based on caste, religion, or gender. When we review the application forms from prospective beneficiaries, we see only students, nothing else. One positive impact this mentorship journey has had on me is that I no longer get bored or tired easily. Whenever I feel weary, I remember how much effort these parents are putting into educating their kids, and how much effort the students themselves are putting into their studies and helping their families. It’s truly inspirational. At the beginning of the programme, I thought I was helping the students. By the end, I realized they have helped me gain a different perspective on life. We processed more than 3,000 applications within 27 days, and the attached picture shows the first batch of over 400 student beneficiaries at the scholarship disbursement event. We first interviewed Taslima Miji in 2013. Miji, who was trained in Sociology from Dhaka University and a former journalist, was already a successful entrepreneur, running her computer hardware retail company Techmania. While Techmania was doing well, Miji was passionate about craftsmanship and wanted to be in the manufacturing industry and create her own products. Years later, that passion would lead to the creation of Leatherina, a Dhaka-based leather goods manufacturer with a focus on sustainability and fair trade practices. In that sense, Leatherina's story begins not in a tannery, but in the world of media and technology. Techmania was a successful business. But computer hardware retail was becoming a challenging space for smaller players by 2015/16 with growing competition, shrinking margins, and unhealthy industry practices. While Techmania had a market reputation and a loyal customer base, Miji eventually decided to exit the business, owing to growing challenges in the sector. The experience provided her invaluable education in business management and resilience, which came in handy when she finally launched Leatherina in 2016. Our most important lessons in business and life come from our most difficult experiences. Leatherina was born out of Miji's fascination with the manufacturing process and her desire to create artisanal lifestyle products. Leather was not an industry that Miji was familiar with. It was far removed from her previous venture and experiences. However, she decided to move ahead because she was fascinated by making and designing her own products. She also saw that Bangladesh has a raw material and labor advantage in leather, which she could leverage to build both a local and an export business. When you enter an industry as an outsider, you face many limitations. In the initial days, you might struggle with basic industry knowledge and insights. Industry gatekeepers might make your journey difficult with arbitrary roadblocks. But you also come with certain advantages. You can see things from a fresh perspective and are open to seeing possibilities where industry insiders see only limitations. In a beginner's mind, there are many possibilities. Being an outsider has eventually become a huge advantage for Miji. She could make bold decisions and think outside the common industry norms. This much is evident in how Leatherina operates as a business. The company has made a good name for its culture of empowering employees and fair business practices in an industry where these practices are not common. It has also quickly gained market attention for its unique products. Joined the YC Startup School London on Saturday and it was awesome! Last talk was given by PG. Some things that stuck with me thinking after the event: 1. One participant asked if AI is indeed a big opportunity or if incumbents will keep ruling PG said there are 2 things that he keeps thinking about and is concerned about: - Climate - AI He also added that AI is as big as the silicone revolution. 2. One participant asked what is a contrarian view he holds in AI. PG answered that he is really curious what will happen with Microsoft. One one hand, they should really benefit from AI. On the other hand, he jokingly said that MS office is used by a billion people who sit around and "pretend" to do something. He meant that the emails and the knowledge work that they do will be doable by AI soon. So where does that leave Microsoft considering these jobs and people are the bread and butter of the company. He added that if previous cycles of mobile, cloud, silicone are of proof - there is no incumbent that cannot be disrupted. 3. How YC and PG selects founders if they are not really sure This was a great point IMO. He said that most of the time it is obvious in the interviews where it is either an absolute yes or an absolute no. Tough part is when we are not really sure. So he went and wrote a list of questions to ask post interview. One of the questions he said was if "Did you laugh during the interview?" If it was a yes, and if you had fun with the founders, it is likely that things will be fun working with these people.
