Shepherd. Shepherd served as BAMSL president from 1963-64 and president of the American Bar Association from 1984-85, and exemplified the word professionalism in his demeanor and his practice. Katie was nominated by multiple attorneys who provided glowing letters of recommendation. She was chosen based on her willingness to give back to the community not just in her pro bono work but also in her service in the community at-large. She was also chosen because of her ability to practice law in a dignified and professional manner even when met with hostility and unprofessional behavior from others. She is an example of determination and perseverance and is often lauded for being a pleasure to work with.

    This award is given to YLD members to recognize their service to the organization. Katie was the 2022-23 Social Event Chair and worked diligently to bridge the gap between students and young lawyers and worked hard to keep YLD inclusive and fun.

    This award is given to an outstanding Justice Services employee as voted upon by their colleagues. As the Head Steward for the officers' union, Katie was instrumental in drafting bargaining agreements and negotiating wages, resulting in the largest wage increase in the union's history at that point. Katie selflessly gave her time, effort, and attention to this matter despite knowing she would be leaving the department after graduating law school and would not actual receive the wage increase…

    This award is given to an outstanding Justice Services employee as voted upon by their colleagues.     Saint Louis University School of Law

    Katie received this award for her work in the criminal defense clinic as a Rule 13 student attorney. She received the highest grade in her class for this work and assisted in the defense of Native American protesters charged with federal offenses due to their protesting the North Dakota pipeline. She prepared a mitigation report detailing why her client should not be incarcerated while counseling other clients in housing matters and drug offense citations.
