I'm now 2 weeks into my job searching after leaving Big Lots. In this time I've put in over 30 applications, and have only gotten 1 call back and dozens of emails from Life Insurance Companies wanting me to apply and interview. The positions I've been applying for, I'm am more than qualified to do and some over qualified. But, I'm able, willing and wanting to work. Yes, everything i have applied for has been for full-time regular and management positions. How can so many companies be hiring, yet no one is hiring? It should not be this difficult to find a job with my experience. Someone recently told me that I should just get unemployment. My question is why? The unemployment isn't going to pay my bills, and will barely cover my expenses. And it's only a last resort. #jobhunting #jobleads #employmentleads #networking

I did something potentially stupid yesterday in terms of my job search, a couple things really. First I turned DOWN an offer for a retail job that wanted to start me at 15 hours a week for minimum wage. I didn't realize what the pay rate was or the hours were going to be when I interviewed because I was told we'd "discuss" that at offer stage. There was no discussion. An offer came in at minimum wage ($10.85/hr) plus in 6 weeks I could earn commission on items sold. Ugh. I don't need to make what I was used to making, however I also need to keep up on my expenses. So I politely declined, and thanked them for considering me. The second mistake I potentially made was cancelling an interview with a company for a sales job. Based on what I read about the company and customer reviews of what was being sold, I couldn't find anything positive about them or their product. I am not going to sell anything that I don't believe in or feel like people would want. So I also polietly cancellled the interview and thanked them for considering me. I need to work, but I also know what I bring to the table and I believe I know my worth. Im also not willing to hold my nose and compromise on a job that I absolutely know I wouldn't be a good fit for. But I still can't shake the feeling I made a mistake. After all these months, should I really be turning things down? Then I took my daughter to a ball game and took this photo that sort of encapsulated the day I'd had. But it was still a nice night out. 😀 And still . . . #opentowork

Seeing my coworker's post where he shares valuable resume tips for job seekers during this busy season, and while I agree with the advice, it was disheartening to see so many negative comments. I completely understand the frustrations that come with job hunting, especially if you’re navigating unemployment or struggling to find the energy to tailor your resume for every application. However, these tips aren’t shared to make anyone’s life harder. They’re meant to help job seekers stand out in a sea of applicants—especially during a time when recruiters are stretched thin and reviewing dozens (or even hundreds!) of resumes a day. Today, I had a relatively open schedule in my work day, which is rare. No meetings on my calendar, so I took FULL advantage of that and worked from home. I had been needing to get to work on a training presentation that I had started no fewer than 3 times just last week and kept getting interrupted, so I accomplished a single slide over the course of 3 days. Prior to last week, I also attempted to start putting this thing together without success. Today, I started and finished at least the presentation piece. The whole training isn't done, but I got so much work done, I am thrilled (and amazed a little, honestly)! I'm going to say the thing people don't say out loud, out loud. I am 1000% more productive, effective and efficient at home than in any office. I can better prioritize my time and day for laser focused work. Period, the end. 📸: My home office. I am a Working Mom I am exhausted and never done.  I wonder how to find the elusive "work-life" balance  I hear my alarm go off at 3am and trudge downstairs to do the work I couldn't do when the kids were awake I see my work bag, bulging, begging me to finally pay it attention. I want 5 minutes to myself. I am exhausted and never done. I pretend I can do it all I feel the need to eat lots of chocolate I touch my children's soft little cheeks and hug them. I worry I am missing important moments with them. I cry when I feel like I am drowning from it all. I am exhausted and never done. I understand this is a season in my life and will get easier. I say, "I need to appreciate my blessings." I dream that I will be organized and on top of everything I try to be the best mom and HR possible I hope my efforts are not in vain. Today, I received an email from a recruiter regarding an application I submitted in August. While it wasn’t the news I was hoping for, I truly appreciated the feedback. It can be incredibly frustrating when applications go unanswered, so I’m grateful for any response, even if it's not what I expected. This is absolutely on point. People are not just workers, they are human beings with other areas in their lives they have to take care of.
