FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CITY ANNOUNCES SMALL BUSINESS CAPITAL ACCESS PROGRAMS JACKSONVILLE, Florida, August 13, 2024 – The City of Jacksonville Office of Economic Development (OED) announces the newly established Small Business Capital Access Programs (SBCAP), which supports the growing needs of the over 66,000 small businesses in Duval County. Nearly 18,000 of those businesses employ 100 people or less. The programs are intended to align with the City’s commitment to nurture a thriving small business community, while enhancing economic stability, entrepreneurship, job growth, and resiliency within the City. "I am thrilled about the Small Business Capital Access program, which offer grants and low-interest loans to small businesses across Duval County,” said Gregory Grant, the EBO/JSEB Administrative Director for the City of Jacksonville. “This initiative is a key step towards making our city a destination where small businesses thrive, aligning with the Mayor's vision of Jacksonville becoming the Small Business Capitol of the Southeast." Programs offered include: • Small Business Micro-Grant Funding Initiative The Small Business Micro-Grant Funding Initiative aims to provide financial support ranging from $500 to $1,000 to aspiring and emerging micro-businesses in Jacksonville. • Small Business Low-Interest Loan Funding The Small Business Low-Interest Loan Funding offers tiered loans ranging from $1,000 to $50,000. • Veterans Entrepreneurship Funding The Veterans Entrepreneurship Funding serves to support veteran micro-businesses through grants up to $2,000. • Jacksonville Small & Emerging Business (JSEB) Funding The Jacksonville Small & Emerging Business (JSEB) Funding focuses on supporting JSEB micro-businesses.    o Grants range from $1,000 to $5,000 o Tiered loans range from $5,000 to $50,000 The SBCAP will be administered by LISC Jacksonville. Denver’s affordable housing crisis has reached a critical point, impacting the lives of families, essential workers, seniors, and vulnerable communities. The rising costs and lack of accessible housing threaten the diverse, inclusive city we cherish. While local efforts are making a difference, meaningful change requires more funding, legislative changes, and policy frameworks that empower affordable housing developers and market-rate builders alike. Imagine a city where everyone has a place to call home. Where every neighborhood welcomes a variety of housing options, where families, essential workers, and seniors can live affordably and comfortably. This vision is within reach, but it requires all of us—policymakers, builders, and community members—to equally support housing policies that promote abundance, encourage modest increases in housing density within residential neighborhoods, without high-rise buildings or major structural changes to our neighborhoods’ character, and resource allocation across all neighborhoods. As an example of what can be achieved, we (a collaborative efforts of those mentioned above) have already taken meaningful steps and achieved extraordinary success with our nationally recognized Accessory Dwelling Unit program. A new opportunity is within our grasp. This isn’t just about building homes; it’s about creating a balanced, inclusive community where everyone can thrive.

We hosted over 100 FutureMakers for the 9th FutureMakers Coalition Breakfast of Champions on September 12th. It was an exciting morning filled with reflections on what we can accomplish when we work together, how our work aligns with the work of the Florida Chamber of Commerce with a fantastic keynote address from Mark Wilson, and what is ahead as we approach 2025. A couple of highlights: - FutureMakers Coalition has increased attainment from 39% to 44.3% (2022). That’s 62,613 credentials since we got started. - FutureMakers Coalition has distributed $10M to partners since 2020. What FutureMakers do over the next year will determine if we reach our 55% goal. What are you willing to do to help transform the workforce in SWFL?

Florida small business owners in need of assistance are encouraged to visit FloridaJobs.org/EBL to apply for the Florida Small Business Emergency Bridge Loan Program. Businesses in the following counties, including sole proprietors, are eligible to apply: Alachua, Baker, Bradford, Brevard, Broward, Charlotte, Citrus, Clay, Collier, Columbia, DeSoto, Dixie, Duval, Flagler, Gilchrist, Glades, Hamilton, Hardee, Hendry, Hernando, Highlands, Hillsborough, Indian River, Lafayette, Lake, Lee, Levy, Madison, Manatee, Marion, Martin, Miami-Dade, Monroe, Nassau, Okeechobee, Orange, Osceola, Palm Beach, Pasco, Pinellas, Polk, Putnam, Sarasota, Seminole, St. Johns, St. Lucie, Sumter, Suwanee, Taylor, Union, and Volusia counties. The program provides short-term, zero-interest loans to small businesses that experienced economic injury or physical damage due to Hurricane Milton. Loans approved through the Emergency Bridge Loan Program are intended to “bridge the gap” between the time a disaster impacts a business and when a business has secured longer-term recovery funding, such as federally or commercially available loans, insurance claims, or other resources. Loans made under this program are short-term, zero-interest, personal loans using State of Florida funds. They are not grants and loans must be repaid by the approved applicant. FloridaCommerce administers the Emergency Bridge Loan Program alongside its fiscal administrator, Florida First Capital Finance Corporation.
