It was a pleasure to hear Dr. Ayesha Khanna, the resident guru of #ai, talk about the future of the space. There is not one industry that won’t be disrupted by real artificial intelligence. I don’t mean the stuff that has AI on the surface and is still powered by humans below the hood. Real AI will transform the nature of life and work whether we like it or not. It’s times like these that it is refreshing to hear a presentation at a business conference end on a note revolving around responsibility. Building Large Language Models powered by data from a biased world, will produce biased results. The question is whose vision of the future should we use to guide us? What does a fair world look like? Who gets to decide what “responsible” means? I don’t have the answers, but it’s great to know smart people are trying to tackle the problem. #echelon #e27 #publicpolicy

I’ve delivered multiple workshops on AI in Media over the last few weeks. 3 courses for Aljazeera Media Institute (AI in News:1 Day | Introduction to AI:1 Day | AI in Content Production: 3 Day workshop) and most recently an online session on AI in Media for Independent Radio staff through Learning Waves Skillnet. The thing that strikes me above all is that the majority of attendees have a little knowledge of the AI landscape and over 80% on average have experimted with or use ChatGPT. Audio Generators, Music Generators and Image and video Generator usage is much lower, possibly as low as 20%. But the really striking thing is how few are aware of the current pace of development and where that make lead us by the end of this decade. The concept of AGI is not common knowledge nor is the vision of the singularity and how quickly quantum computing may make that a reality. The focus appears to be on the here and now and the latest tools to play with but I increasingly think every media organisation should not only be fully aware of AGI and what that means for potential job displacement but that we are raising awareness of it with our audiences as a matter of urgency. I’ve read Mo Gawdat’s “Scary Smart” and watched hours of interviews with people purported to be “Godfathers of AI” and there is a disturbing trend towards some of the leading minds calling for another* pause on development to try to scope the potential positives and negatives of the path we are on but they are being drowned out by the investor frenzy and marketing hype of all the companies jumping on the ai development opportunity. @Apple is now sharing some details on how RCS will work on iPhones. The attached screenshot, from Apple's website, https://lnkd.in/ejhaUc5Z, tells us: 1- Yes, green bubble will still be there. 2- RCS will be spelt out in the input bar when chatting with a friend on Android. So you will know messages are being sent with RCS 3- Delivery receipts 4- Read Receipts 5- High quality photos Two big implications: - RCS is soon going to be a well know name- shown to mobile users every time they use iMessage or Messages by Google. - A new era of messaging has truly dawned. I completely agree. Currently, fine-tuning and training AI models are the most effective methods for obtaining accurate responses. This underscores the importance of open-source AI models for startups wanting to customize their AI solutions without the financial burden of developing their own models from scratch.

The radio as we know it is getting a major upgrade! YouTube Music is reportedly testing an AI-generated conversational radio feature, offering an interactive and personalized method of music discovery, unlike traditional radio formats. This innovative approach allows premium subscribers to create personalized stations by describing their music preferences in natural language requests such as "catchy pop choruses" or "upbeat pop anthems." Not just that, YouTube Music is also rolling out a new sound search tool for all users to identify songs by humming, singing, or playing parts on an instrument, a function similar to Shazam. These features are currently available to select Premium subscribers in the U.S, with plans to expand this functionality to more users in the future. It seems that every week another CEO announces that they are no longer doing 1on1 meetings… At first, Jensen Huang (CEO of Nvidia) announced he doesn’t do 1on1s. Then others from across the tech world started to do the same: Zeb Evans from ClickUp  Karri Saarinen from Linear  Howard Lerman from Yext I also started experimenting with 3-person meetings instead of my weekly 1on1s (every other week). There seems to be a new trend - a shift in meeting practices. Meetings are important, but you’ve got to be purposeful about how you meet. Anyone else experimenting with removing 1on1 meetings?  Or is this trend doomed to end?

Good example of AI assistant vs. AI agent, featured on a great episode of Behind the Product: Replit | Amjad Masad One of the things I love most is hearing the stories behind incredible products—what drove their creation, the challenges along the way, and the vision of the people behind them. Today, I want to share a fantastic episode of Lenny Rachitsky Podcast: “Behind the Product: Replit,” featuring Replit’s founder, Amjad Masad. Replit is often thought of as a developer tool, but in my opinion, the reality is more nuanced - it’s actually a tool for product managers and founders. Why? Because more than helping developers build code, it empowers creators to build prototypes blazingly fast. It’s a great example to distinguish between an AI Assistant and an AI Agent. An AI Assistant, as the name suggests, assists humans in performing a task. An AI Agent, on the other hand, takes ownership of a task all the way to completion—or at least much closer to it than an AI assistant ever could. In Replit’s case, the persona (or role) it’s truly supporting is the product manager. The task it tackles head-on is rapid prototyping. It’s not just a tool for developers (though they can, of course, use it). It’s empowering anyone with an idea to bring it to life, quickly and effectively. But here’s the next challenge: Once I have a prototype, or even something close to an MVP, the gap to a full product is high. To close it, you need to understand the code, evolve it, fix bugs, add features, and upgrade your production. all without breaking existing functionality. This is a challenge the industry will need to tackle quickly, as the amount of AI-generated code grows exponentially. The next questions in line are: Who’s responsible for this code? Who will test it? Who will maintain it? If you’re interested in developer tools, product design, or just love a good startup story, this episode is worth your time.
