The goal of the Communications and Networking Program within the Office of Naval Research (ONR 311) is to support the Navy's Information Warfare vision by developing measurable advances in technology that can directly enable and enhance end-to-end connectivity and quality of-service for mission-critical information exchange among widely dispersed naval, joint, and coalition forces. The ONR is interested in white papers for potential FY24 Applied Research (Budget category 6.2) projects under the following focus areas: 1. SOCOM recognized a need for a comprehensive, secure, and user-friendly marketplace where SOCOM units can easily explore, select, purchase, and manage approved training from reputable vendors. Speed, convenience, and flexibility are the three core principles of this simplified procurement process. SOCOM requires an Amazon-like platform with automated procurement features that can be easily changed and adapted to meet evolving mission requirements. This single mission-enabled platform will allow users to acquire the necessary training needs of Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC), Theater Special Operations Commands (TSOCs), Special Missions Units (SMUs), and SOCOM service components. We leveraged a deep understanding of SOCOM’s distinct enterprise training requirements to conceptualize a unique SOCOM Training Marketplace design within Digital University. Our initial focus is to create a streamlined user interface and enhance the user experience for effortless navigation through the extensive pool of 100+ SOCOM-specific vendors. To capture SOCOM stakeholder needs, Omni is applying our commercially proven Human-Centered Design process adapted to meet the mission and security needs of DoD agencies. Our scope of work includes integrating an easy-to-use and streamlined procurement process, initially developed, and validated by the Digital University Program Team to expedite the acquisition of training resources. The Air Force Wargaming Institute
The Air Force Wargaming Institute assisted the first Air Force Warrant Officer Training School (WOTS) instructors and candidates in learning the board wargame Air Force Wargame Indo-Pacific. WOTS has created a lesson plan around the board wargame to allow all the candidates to meet the school's three program learning outcomes: Professional Warfighter, Technical Integrator, and Credible Advisor. Through gameplay, the candidates were able to demonstrate military professionalism and decision-making skills used in mission execution throughout the continuum of warfare operations. In addition, they demonstrate leadership and followership skills that foster innovation and facilitate the integration of people, organizations, and effects to achieve the mission. Finally, in a Credible Advisor role, they were able to hone their effective communication skills, informed by technical knowledge, to advise command teams toward effective decision-making. Lt Col Sterling Boyer, the Director of Curriculum Design for the Jeanne M. In August, Marine Corps Logistics Integrated Information Solutions (LI2S-MC), in collaboration with Surface Deployment and Distribution Command (SDDC), facilitated tests for the latest version of the Integrated Computerized Deployment System (ICODES) — the DoD’s force deployment application. ICODES is an essential application that ensures effective transportation planning in both peacetime and wartime operations. The DoD uses ICODES to automate load planning and track cargo movements across land, air, and sea. The September ICODES deployment includes updates and new features to enhance functionality for planners and operators. The team updated two ICODES modules — the Sea Service Deployment Module (SSDM) and the Single Load Planner (SLP) — making it easier to generate documentation required for the military unit move process. New features include: 📍 A new interface with the Consolidated Air Mobility Planning System (CAMPS) Increment 1 (Inc 1) to transfer unit deployment airlift request data and all supporting airlift documentation to CAMPS Inc 1, and feed data into the U.S. Transportation Command (USTRANSCOM) system for sourcing and scheduling aircraft. 📍 The Joint Equipment Characteristics Database (JECD) module, a new prime repository for cargo characteristics of all equipment across the DoD.
