Is this problem caused by a design defect? The issue is, is this problem a potential with all LVAD's ? If so it would seem that surgeons would not need to be instructed how to handle the problem as it would be known to all surgeons who implant LVAD's And there would be no reason for the Abbott corrective action. It appears however that the serious problem with the Abbott required new instructions to surgeons on how to remedy the problem. If this however is a problem unique to the Abbott LVAD what is different about the Abbott LVAD and could it addressed by a design change? FDA will demand an answer. What do you think about this?

If you're a refractive surgeon, your biggest competitor is not your neighbor down the street. It's indifference and lack of awareness. I receive google news alerts on a variety of topics and this one in Forbes caught me by surprise yesterday morning. How is it possible that 𝟮𝟱 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀 𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿, we are still addressing the basic questions about LASIK? This is an unfortunate example of how we as an industry (surgeons, manufacturers and other stakeholders) have done a terrible job of educating the public on the benefits of vision correction procedures. I certainly know Todd Usen, the former President of Olympus' Medical Systems Group. But I had never heard of Rob Surgical until I bumped into Todd at #SRS2024. What an intriguing company. It's running directly for the Ambulatory Surgical Market, building a robot that is scope-agnostic - Stryker, Storz, Olympus...doesn't matter. AND Rob Surgical's robot can travel, so much so that the company's is planning deliver AND pick up its #surgicalrobotic system as needed. Dental Tribune International reported a new study that shows that multilayer materials are superior to single-layer materials when it comes to aligner force. Based on these findings, lead author Dr. Tarek Elshazly recommends “using a combination of two materials for each single step. Treatment should start with a multilayer material for one week, followed by a single-layer material for another week or just three days. This approach enhances movement control and maintains the necessary force.” In his interview, Dr. Elshazly also brought up another pressing topic in the clear aligners industry: sustainability. Like many industries, the use of plastics is cause for concern, but several solutions are being explored: 3D-printed shape memory materials and recyclable aligner materials.
