The short answer is no. Medicare Advantage plans are not allowed to medically underwrite, which means they cannot charge you more or decline your coverage for any pre-existing condition. They also cannot charge you more if you are a smoker. In fact, they are not allowed to ask you any health questions when you are applying for a Medicare Advantage plan. However, they may ask questions after you have enrolled and encourage you to enroll in a smoking cessation program or other medical management programs they have designed to help those with chronic health conditions like diabetes, heart failure, and others. It is important to know that this is not the same for Medicare Supplement plans. While there are certain times, like when you are first eligible for Medicare, that Medicare Supplement insurance companies are not allowed to charge you more if you have pre-existing conditions (this is called guarantee issue). In most cases, after that, you can be charged more or declined for coverage due to pre-existing health conditions. Struggling with treatment uptake? You need to stop selling treatments and start using the problem-outcome gap. Here's why it's so effective: When a patient comes to you, they're not just seeking treatment. They're looking to bridge a gap between their: → current situation → and their desired outcome. Let's break down how to leverage this: 1. Start with the patient's perspective Have them describe their problem in their own words. Listen carefully to how they explain its impact on their daily life. 2. Demonstrate understanding Repeat their description back to them, using their exact language. This builds rapport and shows you truly get their situation. 3. Avoid clinical jargon early on Many clinicians make the mistake of getting too technical too soon. This can intimidate patients. Stick to their language instead. 4. Explore consequences Discuss what's at stake if they don't address the problem now. This helps gauge their motivation level. 5. Paint the ideal outcome Ask them to describe their desired result as if they had a magic wand. Encourage specificity: - "Having a confident smile" - "Looking a decade younger" - "Feeling confident wearing fitted clothes" 6. Use visual aids These are powerful tools. Consider using cameras or screens to highlight areas of concern. Before and after photos can be effective, but ensure they're relatable to the person. 7. Close the gap Now that you've clearly defined both the problem and the desired outcome, you're in a perfect position to present your treatment as the bridge between the two. Now you're not just selling a treatment. You're offering a transformation that patients can visualise and emotionally connect with. This approach naturally leads to higher case acceptance rates and more satisfied patients who truly understand the value of what you're offering. Try this framework enough times, and soon enough, it'll come as second nature!

Drive more foot traffic to the clinic Current Resources: 1. Social media accounts (Facebook/Instagram with active ads) 2. Google My Business listing 3. Clinic website My Recommendations: 1. Optimize existing social media profiles to improve searchability. 2. Pause ad campaigns (people typically don’t make decisions about cosmetic procedures based solely on ads). 3. Focus on organic content. 4. Build a strong personal brand for the doctor, as people will always trust the doctor in this industry. Trust truly matters in this industry 5. Encourage the team to prioritize the clinic’s accounts, GMB, SEO, and educational content 6. Ensure that all content for both personal and clinic accounts is approved by the doctor 7. Share the doctor’s journey on social media—patients connect with authentic stories 8. Add as many testimonials as possible 9. Once educational content is established and strong, consider resuming ads 10.
