I came across a copywriter’s blog that perfectly fits what I’d call “eccentric". Of course, it wasn’t long before I got sucked into reading a bunch of posts that caught my eye - and most of them kept me glued to the screen. Paradoxically, this blog that’s called “Men with Pens” is… …(or was? I’ve noticed something fascinating about freelance editors lately: Many are incredible at polishing other people’s words but struggle to promote their expertise. 🤔 This disconnect is costing them $$$. Clients aren’t just looking for skills—they want to work with REAL people they can trust. ➜ Building a personal brand doesn’t mean you need to be an “influencer.” ➜ Just do this: Showcase your perspective and establish credibility in your niche. If you’re not actively managing your online presence, you’re leaving money on the table. Start small: 1. Optimize your LinkedIn profile. 2. Share insights from your editing work.* 3. Engage thoughtfully in industry discussions. (*without breaking confidentiality, of course) Every comment, every post, is a chance to demonstrate your expertise. The dividends? Higher-paying clients, more referrals, and opportunities you never saw coming. As a Solopreneur, picking a vertical/horizontal is the most common (and ineffective) way to niche down. Buyers see right through it. Here’s what happens: → You slap a modifier on your website for a specific type of company or person. → Your content lacks the depth that anyone you’re “targeting” cares about. → Your offers feel generic and could apply to anyone. → Your sales calls ramble on and are slow to close. → Your prices stay too low for too long. This is what everyone does, and here’s why this doesn’t work: → You never showed buyers that you *get* **their problem - only that you have a service to sell (like everyone else trying to sell them something). The most successful Solopreneurs I know do the exact opposite. → They niche down on a *problem* - not just a vertical or horizontal position. → And then they attack the problem from every possible angle, over and over again. Because they know something most people miss. The problem is the solution. This mindset is how they overcome the fear that “niching down will alienate buyers.” After working directly with dozens of Solopreneurs, I can tell you that the more specific the problem is, the more you can charge, and the stronger the magnet you become. #plantyourflag

The Difference Between a Noob and a Pro Copywriter Yesterday, I shared that the difference between a beginner and a veteran writer is the ability to make their copy flow. And to do that, pros use plenty of transition words or phrases. You see... When you're reading your copy out loud, you'll inevitably notice spots where the text doesn't flow. In these cases, you need transition words to make the flow smoother. Here are several examples of good transition words and phrases: - First, second, third - In fact, likewise, on top of that - In effect, as a result, then, hence - Additionally, further, what's more - But, or, now, unlike, while, as much as - Equally important, uniquely, peculiarly - On the contrary, on one hand, on the other hand - For this reason, that's why, indeed, especially, particularly - Above all, despite, since, as long as, unless, in case (of), so that And many, many others. Even accomplished writers often get this one wrong. Words that end in -ly are adverbs; they don't need to be hyphenated (only compound adjectives do). This might be a minor mistake (it is), but these types of mistakes can add up. Too many and your content will suffer. It's always good to scan for these hard-to-find errors before publishing or hitting "send." (And if you need some help, let me know.) #grammar #businesscontent #selfediting

Bill for it. It forces your clients to respect your boundaries in a way nothing else can. I've sat on both sides of the table when it comes to this issue. It works. In most cases, I’m probably creating the first set of content—technical articles and documents. That sounds cool, but the problem is that you usually have limited material to work with. And there is no quick Google search for more information about your topic. Here is how you can deal with this type of situation ➡ Interview with Stakeholders Stakeholders are team members who work directly with the product/project. These people can provide valuable information about how the product works. ✅ Think technical founder, Project and product managers, Team Leads, and developers. 💜 Pro tip: Record the meeting; you can use AI note-takers so you can easily refer back to the meeting. ➡ Whitepapers Good ol’ whitepapers! The whitepaper or pitch deck is a must-have if you’re looking at creating original content. Whitepapers usually contain the technical background and breakdown of the protocol and products. 💜 Pro tip: It might be a bore to read through, so you can take in parts that is relevant to you at the moment. ➡ Original Research Reports Research reports are a great place to get original data about different topics. I love “state of the” reports from research teams from Binance, Coinbase, Messari, or government agencies. 💜 Pro tip: Do a Google search with (“Topic” + report or “Topic” + research report) ➡ On-chain Data Analytics and Visualization Tools You can use them to get original stats and facts for your content, and visualization tools let you get original charts and graphs you can embed in your piece. The result: A credible data-driven piece 💜 Pro tip: My Favorite tools are The Block, RWA.xyz (when writing about tokenization), CoinGecko, CoinMarketCap, DeFiLlama, and TradingView How do you carry out original research? People often underestimate how much publishing a book can cost (both in time and money). Some may be able to cut costs by not hiring editors, formatters, and/or cover designers and doing it all themselves, but the results tend to be lower quality (unless those skills are something they have a high competency level in). I cannot tell you how many books I've read that ended up sounding like word salad because they weren't edited and/or formatted correctly. And, unfortunately, those lower quality results are much harder to market and sell. This creates a cycle of disappointment and imposter syndrome for the author, discouraging them from sharing their message with the world. So what should someone expect to pay if they want a high-quality book that will sell well? (1) Editing For a 200-page book, editing will typically cost $500-$5,000 depending on how much work the manuscript needs. There are three levels of editing: developmental, line-editing, and proofreading. Some writers need all three, some just need one. (2) Formatting This is typically $300-$1,000 depending on the genre of the book. Are there a lot of pictures? Charts? Graphs? Maps? Those will increase the amount of work needed. (3) Cover Design These can cost anywhere from $50-$1,000 depending on how much custom work is required. Are you using custom artwork, or pre-existing images and templates? (4) Publishing Depending on which platform you choose, this can cost anywhere from $50-$500. This is directly correlated to how many versions of the book you want (paperback vs. hardback vs. ebook) and where/how you want them to be distributed (online vs. in-person). (5) ISBNs One ISBN will cost you $125. If you want multiple versions of your book (paperback vs. hardback vs. ebook), you will have to buy a bundle for $295. (6) Marketing It is entirely up to you how much you want to invest in marketing. Personally, I set aside at least $800 for each book launch for ads, reviews, etc. All in all, you're likely looking at costs of $2,000-$9,000 (not including the hours and hours spent researching and comparing all of your options).
