As we observe #EarthDay, I’m proud to share an inspiring blog post by my colleague, Charu Adesnik, Executive Director, Cisco Foundation, highlighting several organizations whose work aligns to Cisco’s corporate environmental sustainability strategy.   Take Jaza Energy, an organization revolutionizing clean energy access in Tanzania and Nigeria with solar hubs, creating sustainable alternatives to kerosene and generators. This not only illuminates thousands of homes but also empowers local communities, particularly women, through economic opportunities.   Another compelling story is about Green Wolf Costa Rica (GWCR). Through education, activation efforts, and the creation of sustainable souvenirs, GWCR transforms beach waste into opportunities while fostering resilience in vulnerable communities. Since 2019, GWCR has removed over 70 tons of beach waste and planted hundreds of trees in collaboration with community and corporate volunteers.   And then there’s Human-I-T. Through innovative solutions and a dedication to digital equity, this organization has made significant strides in connecting students and their households with the technology they need to thrive in an increasingly digital world. In 2023 alone, Human-I-T distributed 60,000 devices to communities across the United States, trained 5,000 people with digital literacy skills, and diverted 3.4 million pounds of e-waste from landfills.    Incredible. 🚗🐾 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝟮: 𝗦𝗮𝗰𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗼 𝗣𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝗔𝗰𝗲'𝘀 𝗛𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗹 𝗔𝗱𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 Today will be another long stretch on our journey—about 9 hours from Sacramento to Portland. The real highlight of the evening last night, wasn’t the drive from Southern California to Sacramento…it was our family dog, Ace. 🐶❤️ This was 𝗔𝗰𝗲’𝘀 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻 𝗮 𝗵𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗹, and honestly, 𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘁𝘁𝘆 𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗼𝘂𝘀. He’s a desert camper at heart (no fireworks, just open skies). But tonight, I tried something new: I grabbed his little stuffed ball and called him over to play fetch. 🎾 But Ace wouldn’t budge. 🛑 𝗛𝗶𝘀 𝗱𝗼𝗴𝗴𝘆 𝗯𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗻𝗲𝗿 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘀𝗮𝗳𝗲 𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗲, and with everything new around him—the smells, the sounds, the unfamiliar room—𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝘀𝗻’𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗶𝘁. I had to coax him out gently. With a little patience, Ace saw the ball, his tail wagged, and he played fetch right there in the hotel room. It was a small but meaningful victory. 🥹 🧠 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗟𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗔𝗰𝗲: In cloud and cybersecurity communication, 𝘄𝗲 𝗼𝗳𝘁𝗲𝗻 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘆 𝗶𝗻 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗼𝘄𝗻 "𝘀𝗮𝗳𝗲 𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗲𝘀." Maybe it’s sticking to technical terms and phrases because it feels familiar, or avoiding speaking up in leadership meetings because it's uncomfortable. But growth—𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗳𝘂𝗹 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁—only happens when we step out of our corner and engage. Just like Ace, sometimes all it takes is a little nudge, a bit of encouragement, and a clear reason to step forward.
