“Marianne and I have worked together in the same project team for two years – I joined as a fresh graduate student while she was a post doctoral fellow. Marianne is generous with her time and the sharing of her knowledge in molecular biology and gene editing. In particular, CRISPR/Cas9 mediated gene editing and the study of regulatory T cell function are two key areas of her expertise. As a team leader, she is receptive to input and new ideas, integrating them so there is buy in and the team can move forward together. As colleagues, our team has had a wonderful time working with her professionally and also getting to know her on a personal level. ”

Generation of neural cells from DM1 induced pluripotent stem cells as cellular model for the study of central nervous system neuropathogenesis.
Cell Reprogramming
In this research article, induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) were generated from fibroblasts cultured from human skin biopsies taken from control and myotonic dystrophy (DM) patients. These cells have the potential to be differentiated into many cell lineages and will provide a valuable tool for studying the neuromuscular pathology of the disease and for testing potential therapies.

Muscleblind-like 2-mediated alternative splicing in the developing brain and dysregulation in myotonic dystrophy.
Neuron
This article demonstrates that the neurological manifestations of the neuromuscular disease, myotonic dystrophy (DM), are largely due to loss-of-function of the RNA binding protein muscleblind-like 2 (MBNL2), which plays an important role in developmentally-regulated alternative splicing.

Functional characterization of an allatotropin receptor expressed in the corpora allata of mosquitoes.
Peptides
This research article identified and characterized an important neuropeptide receptor (i.e., the allatotropin receptor) involved in juvenile hormone production in the yellow fever mosquito, thus uncovering details of a pathway seen as a target for mosquito reproduction control.

Allatostatin-C receptors in mosquitoes.
Peptides
In this research article, two related neuropeptide receptors responsible for regulating female yellow fever mosquito reproduction were characterized, revealing changes in gene expression after blood feeding and differential sensitivity to the neuropeptide ligand.
