The recent hype around dedicated AI hardware has me intrigued, but Marques Brownlee's video on "AI the Product vs AI the Feature" raises a compelling point. Here's why I believe Brownlee might be right: • Frictionless User Experience: Consumers have a limited amount of mental space for new devices. Integrating AI into existing products they already use creates a seamless experience. • Power of the Platform: Established platforms have vast user bases and data – fertile ground for training powerful AI models. Dedicated hardware struggles to compete. We're already seeing this with Apple's WWDC announcements. Enhanced Siri, on-device image generation – these are powerful AI features woven into the fabric of the iOS experience. Of course, there will always be exceptions. But for most businesses, focusing on integrating AI to enhance existing products is likely the smarter move. What are your thoughts? Congrats to Vultr on raising $333M from AMD and LuminArx Capital, achieving a $3.5B valuation. Impressively, this is Vultr’s first-ever capital raise, having been fully bootstrapped and funded by operating cash flows. It’s a great example of a disciplined growth strategy, which minimizes dilution and compounds equity returns — nail the business model, prove out ability to scale with attractive unit economics, and THEN (perhaps) use outside capital to accelerate growth. #AI #Cloud #CapitalMarkets #VC

OpenAI CEO, Sam Altman, is thinking about changing the company to a fully for-profit model 💰 If this happens, it could bring some big changes! First, it would mean that OpenAI’s current non-profit board would no longer make the decisions. This would make OpenAI more like its competitors, such as Elon Musk’s xAI and Amazon-backed Anthropic, which are both for-profit companies. However, these discussions are still in progress, and the final decision hasn't been made yet. So, nothing is certain at this point. What do you think will change? Will it be for better or for worse? Can probabilistic models, like LLMs and Nate Silver's election forecast model, ever truly be perfect, with no errors? According to Nate Silver: "We don’t talk about it much, but there’s a small amount of error introduced into the model because it’s probabilistic rather than deterministic. The margin of error on 40,000 simulations is about ± 0.5 points of win probability for either candidate; after 80,000, it declines, but only to ± 0.35." Sounds like a familiar refrain around Infactory as we discuss the limitations of LLMs... P.S. Vote!

Was chatting with another investor today on a call, and mentioned Tim Urban's Wait But Why Blog post, "The AI Revolution" and how prescient it was. Given that it was written in 2015, decided to flex AI's latest muscles to give it a new venue: a podcast. Step 3: Upload to Descript, give it captions. Step 4: Export, publish to Youtube. Total time to create the podcast: ~25 minutes.
