📢 Norway acquires new NASAMS air defence systems Thrilled to announce that the Norwegian government has ordered new NASAMS air defence systems, which will strengthen the country’s defence capabilities to combat aerial threats. The contract has a value of up to approximately NOK 4.8 billion, including options, with expected deliveries from 2027. “A state-of-the-art air defence system is strategically important for Norway’s defence capabilities and is vital for safeguarding our national security interests. This delivery will provide Norway with the latest generation of NASAMS, developed to meet current and future threats,” said Eirik Lie, President of Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace. The contract with Forsvarsmateriell - Norwegian Defence Materiel Agency includes new multi-missile canister launchers and new Fire Distribution Centers for NASAMS, replacing equipment previously donated to Ukraine. “Significant steps are now being taken to secure national interests by rapidly providing Forsvaret - Norwegian Armed Forces with increased and modern air defence capabilities. RENK Group AG, a leading supplier of military and civilian propulsion solutions has signed a strategic partnership agreement with the global defense and security company QinetiQ. The agreement will see the two companies jointly develop future mobility concepts for military land platforms in the weight class of 5 to 60 tons. The partnership will focus on advanced hybridization concepts and uncrewed ground vehicles (UGVs). As part of the agreement both partners will leverage technological core competencies and strengths: RENK will contribute its expertise in the area of gear technologies and complete system solutions, including electric drives and power electronics. QinetiQ will contribute its expertise in advanced autonomy and manoeuvrability. Today, EDIP has a much smaller budget of €1,5 billion, even if The European Economic and Social Committee recommends increasing this ceiling. This envelope represents, however, for European defence manufacturers, a source of significant investment, to increase and extend their infrastructures, and to stimulate their innovation and their commercial efficiency. It is in this context that, for several months, two camps have been confronting each other in a completely fierce standoff over the EDIP program. At the center of this struggle are the eligibility criteria for European support for defence investment programmes.

The Forsvarsmateriell - Norwegian Defence Materiel Agency (NDMA) has entered into an agreement with U.S. authorities to acquire the AIM-120C-8 Advanced Medium-Range Air-to-Air Missile (AMRAAM), an investment worth over NOK 4 billion (EUR 340 million). This major procurement, one of the largest single defence acquisitions for the Forsvaret - Norwegian Armed Forces, will enhance Norway's air defence capabilities amid increased security concerns in the region. The missiles, produced by RTX, are intended primarily for the NASAMS ground-based air defence system, which forms the core of Norway’s air defence network. They are also compatible with Norway’s F-35A fighter jets, providing added flexibility for both ground and aerial defence applications. Lockheed Martin signed a framework agreement with a Finnish consortium led by Bittium to fulfil its indirect defence-related offset obligations as part of Finland’s acquisition of the F-35A Lightning II. Announced on 15 August, the agreement is valued at USD3.8m, with funds set to be distributed among the consortium members in proportion to workshare. The agreement aims to develop cyber situational awareness solutions for applications such as Bittium’s wireless networks. Local entities VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland Ltd (VTT) and Huld, both of which have expertise in the space industry, are part of the consortium. “As part of the indirect industrial cooperation for Finland’s F-35 program, [the] Bittium-led consortium is collaborating with Lockheed Martin in two projects for developing tactical networks’ situational awareness. Each project has its own focus area [in] cyber situational awareness and spectrum usage,” a Bittium spokesperson told #CTO.
