I find this interesting. Dan Campbell, coach of the Detroit Lines, is being criticized for giving the game ball to a player other than his QB, who had a "perfect game" in terms of completions thrown. I see this as a sign of a coach focused on the process and, obviously, someone else's performance rose up. I can recall coaching games when I wasn't aware of someone scoring 30 points (basketball) and folks were dumbfounded. To me, they were just doing their job. Executing the plan. I was looking at other things. A great coach focuses on the plan and those things that they can control and influence in the moment. Stats can help, but sometimes we should be looking at intangibles like effort, attitude and belief - not our QB's completion percentage, necessarily. What do you think? From 1949 to 1965, Robin Roberts averaged an astonishing 250 Major League Baseball (MLB) innings pitched per year, amassing 286 wins over 4,688 innings. That durability and dominance earned him a rightful place in the Hall of Fame. But the key to Roberts' legacy isn’t just in the numbers—it’s in the delivery that made such longevity possible. His mechanics, a masterclass in rhythm, fluidity, and power, are a roadmap for today’s pitchers who aspire to both health and greatness. Yet, this art is fading. When I watch an MLB game today, most pitchers resemble "Generic Pitcher 1" from MLB The Show. They throw hard, sure—but they don’t last. To endure at the highest level, pitchers must rediscover the craft: -Be loose. -Find a rhythm. -Learn when to throttle up or down. -Disrupt hitters' timing. -Above all, get outs. Robin Roberts’ delivery is a blueprint. Pay close attention to his rear foot—the subtle rise of the heel as his hands swing overhead, the deliberate step and hook onto the rubber to anchor his body, and the seamless transfer of energy into his lift and kick. This cadence and rhythm synchronize his movements, allowing his arm to be perfectly timed at foot strike and decelerate safely into his body. Next Friday we are back with a new Locker Room Sports Community model that I've designed to better serve athlete business owners, our sports business members, and sports focused non-profits. A limited number of sports related non-profit organizations that serve kids will receive membership at no cost. Please reach out for information on how to apply. In order to support our non-profits, we focus on creating partnerships with athletes, sports industry companies, and other non-profits in order to impact more kids. Our athlete business owners and sports business members will be coming together to help our non-profits through fundraising events, volunteerism, and cause marketing campaigns. Personally, I’m stepping into finding purpose in pain, and making a difference in the lives of kids is how I do that. I’m dedicating myself to using my sports business projects to generate funds for further research into early onset bipolar and using my platform to create awareness of this poorly understood condition. Bipolar that starts as a young child is more severe and complex than adult onset bipolar, and the life outcomes are worse. Since childhood, this condition has ruined my life more times and in more ways than I can count. I will consider my life a waste if I can’t find a way to help other kids not end up like me.

Where is the future of Major League Baseball (MLB) headed? In 2024, a staggering 74% of all injury-related days missed were by pitchers, with arm injuries alone accounting for 58%. The financial toll reflects this as well, with MLB teams spending $686 million on injured pitchers this year—$561 million solely due to arm injuries. This rise in pitcher injuries has been building steadily for over a decade. Since 2015, MLB teams have spent $7.5 billion on player injuries, with $3.1 billion on arm injuries alone, which represent over half of all injuries. Pitchers account for 67% of the total days missed. The pandemic undoubtedly disrupted the player development cycle, but since 2021, days missed due to arm injuries have surged from 46% to 58%, and the share of cash lost due to pitchers has risen from 54% to 69%. We’re seeing the impact in the postseason: a shift in availability and depth of quality starting pitchers and a growing reliance on a revolving bullpen. It’s like watching a high-stakes showcase event where endurance and consistency fall behind. MLB knows there’s a problem; I’ve spoken with them on multiple occasions and proposed pilot programs to reduce injury rates. But changing course isn’t easy when the very dynamics that fuel this surge in arm injuries are embedded at every level of baseball. So what’s the solution? Change the rules? Change the game itself? That might be MLB’s simplest path forward. We’re currently on track for pitchers to account for 80% of all missed days in the league, with over 60% due to arm injuries. It’s absurd. Teams like the Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Yankees have shown they can handle massive payrolls and stockpile injuries and still make it to the World Series, thanks to depth and top-tier talent. But this dynamic creates a widening gap when big-market teams can afford to overcome injuries, while most small-market teams struggle to develop talent and remain competitive.
