A small Midwest nonprofit (10 employees) found themselves in a recurring cycle of hiring delays and missed opportunities for a Property Manager position they desperately needed to fill. For three months the Executive Director found herself struggling to allocate time to review candidate resumes. With her constant juggling of priorities and in the middle of grant season, she found herself in a constant cycle of resumes sitting in Indeed, and by the time she reviewed them (often three or four weeks after applications came in), the top candidates had already withdrawn their applications or didn’t respond to her request for an interview – either they had accepted other positions or just lost interest. Recognizing the urgency of the situation for her organization and the need for a better hiring solution, the Executive Director reached out, asking for our help. Within three weeks of engaging Talbott Talent, the organization had an accepted job offer from their dream Property Manager. Not only did this candidate have the experience and technical skills needed for the role, but she was mission-aligned and had the vision and skills to move the organization forward.  SOLUTION: Tighten up applicant reviewing and interviewing timeline. Talbott Talent learned about the position and drafted a dynamic job ad that received over 60 applications in one week. As part of the Hiring Partnership, our nonprofit recruiters reviewed resumes, conducted initial interviews, held follow-up calls with top candidates, and scheduled the top three candidates for in-person interviews with the Executive Director. #OpenToWork and seeking some support from my network as I navigate this space! Over the last 6 months, I have been finding fulfillment and growth in project management/consulting roles on a contract basis. While I have dabbled in this type of work at other moments when I was between full-time roles, this is the first time I have focused more intentionally on perusing this type of employment longterm. While I have not closed the door completely on eventually returning to work for a single organization full-time, and in the absence of seeing an opening I feel was "made" for me at this moment, I remain committed to continuing along this journey. I plan to be doing a lot more #CrowdSourcing via LinkedIn in the near future as I network, learn, strategize, make mistakes, succeed, grow, ... and so on. At the moment, here's who I am hoping to connect at this time: 1. Organizations/leaders with unmet fundraising or fundraising-adjacent (leadership development, planning for a specialized campaign, donor prospecting/cultivation/stewardship, annual strategy, presentation/solicitation materials, events, etc.) needs. This may be due to a variety of factors such as short-term or one-time project or campaign, etc., or because you have a key role that needs to be filled and, in the meantime, want to ensure the workflow remains in tact without stretching current staff beyond their bandwidth. If you find yourself in this position and are open to exploring partnering with a contractor on an interim or ongoing basis to fill a current or future voids - let's chat! 2. Individuals who have made (or tried to make) the transition from full-time work to contract work - specifically those in the nonprofit space. If this describes you and you're willing to share best practices, lessons you wish you knew "back then," and (absolutely not expected but appreciated bonus) may be willing to go through your contacts to make some warm connections - let's chat! Don't just post on job boards - leverage your networks. Referrals make great candidates. 2. Values alignment is key.
