📊 2023 CRA Data Insights: Small-Business and Small-Farm Lending 📊 The latest CRA data release by the Federal Reserve, FDIC, and OCC reveals significant trends in small-business and small-farm lending for 2023. As CRA professionals, understanding these shifts is crucial for strategic planning and community impact. Key Findings: Decline in Lending: Both the number and value of small-business and small-farm loans decreased in 2023 compared to 2022. Small-Business Loans: Approximately 8.4 million loans totaling nearly $261.7 billion were reported, marking a 5.2% decrease in the number of loans and an 8.9% decrease in the dollar amount. Small-Farm Loans: The number of originations decreased by 5.6%, and the dollar amount decreased by 5.2%. Reasons for Decline: Rising interest rates and tighter lending standards were cited as likely reasons for the decrease. Community Development Lending: Among 639 institutions, community development loans totaled over $126 billion, a 16% decrease from 2022. Understanding these trends helps us better serve our communities and adapt to changing economic conditions.
