On April 25, 2024, Maryland enacted the Wage Range Transparency Act (WRTA), which expands pay transparency requirements for employers under the state’s Equal Pay for Equal Work Act (EPEWA). The New Jersey General Assembly has recently passed a significant bill aimed at enhancing pay transparency in the workplace. If signed by Governor Phil Murphy, New Jersey will join the ranks of 13 other states with similar laws, promoting fairness and accountability in job postings. Key highlights include: 🔹 Employers with 10 or more employees will be required to include pay ranges and benefits information in all job postings. 🔹 Temporary help firms and consulting agencies must provide this information at the time of interview or hire for specific roles. 🔹 The bill also mandates transparency for internal promotions, ensuring that current employees are informed of opportunities in their departments. While the penalties for non-compliance have been adjusted to $300 for the first violation and $600 for subsequent ones, the push for transparency is a positive step towards equitable workplaces. There are changes coming into effect for Maryland and Washington DC in the coming months for pay transparency.
