Fantastic for case review. Still problematic in practice. The hard work of diagnosis is not asking what the evidence means, but asking the right questions in the first place - this is why medical misdiagnosis is one of the leading causes of death. It bothers me deeply that researchers are focussed on diagnostic accuracy on retrospective case data. Looking for very low false negative rates in interactive (interrogative!) diagnosis far more important. Predictors of *what to do* (including what to ask!), even more so, and the only thing likely to move outcomes for patients. One of my previous companies had a pretty nifty solution to that before LLMs stole the show. *grumble grumble*

The #copyright infringement problems for #generativeAI continue, with 8 more newspapers taking legal action against OpenAI and Microsoft. Also interesting to note that licensing deals have been struck by OpenAI with The FT and German publisher Axel Springer, presumably to authorize use of their content for AI training. This seems to undermine the idea that training is not infringement. Curious what Damien Riehl and Olga V. Mack think about these latest developments?

AI-powered ambient documentation is being launched at health systems across the country. Here is what they’re finding: - Physicians report saving over an hour daily on documentation - Technology allows for more direct patient interaction and eye contact - Multiple NC health systems now using AI scribes - 47% of physicians reported significant reduction in at-home documentation With physician burnout affecting about half of doctors in 2023, AI scribes like DAX Copilot are changing how we document which enables better work-life balance and helps to reduce the documentation burden between patients. It needs to be harnessed and unleashed in a rapid, thoughtful, governed manner with patient prominence & safety uppermost in mind, taking the entire ecosystem of players, risk, technology, data and opportunity into account. An organization hoping to harness this revolution needs to facilitate cross-stakeholder engagement and ensure the appropriate, rigorous and ethical development and application of AI. An organization needs to fuel the engine of this progress with good governance which is key to accelerate that innovation. There is an unnecessary perceived conflict and tension between governance and innovation. This is created by applying governance passively and in a disconnected manner. An organization can eliminate this perceived gap by simply proactively leaning directly into it. This means the organization champions the structure of governance to create the actual innovation. In this way it can leverage the great promise of AI for the betterment of patients and society. Zypsy, a design firm with a track record of helping early-stage startups, has launched a new and somewhat unique venture investment program.  It will be offering 10 startups up to $100,000 of brand and product design services, spanning 8 to 10 weeks of engagement, for no cash payment. Instead startups will pay by issuing Zypsy 1% equity of their companies via a SAFE (Simple Agreement for Future Equity).
