Finished off 2024 with this book which completely exceeded my expectations. I couldn't put it down, the cycle of near deaths and incredible achievements that Nvidia has been through demonstrates how important resilience, perseverance, and execution matter. That is not to say they were prescient, strategic, and fiercely competitive but they went through a lot of ups and downs especially in the early years. The almost went bankrupt twice. The first two chips missed the mark and they barely had enough capital to make the 3rd chip let along test it. The 3rd chip miraculously saved them and was a runaway success. The company lost 80% of their market cap at least twice in its history and Jensen remained steadfast. They created the GPU market and then bet early on AI so much so they had to engage academics to start using their chips outside of gaming and build the market. The bet on AI looks genius know but it was a lot of capital and it was very uncertain. At one point Starboard took an activist position thankfully Jensen was able to buyback shares, increase the share price by 20%, and make them go away. He believed in AI way ahead of the market. Tons of great lessons and a riveting read. Highly recommend this book if you like business and entrepreneurship. #entrepreneurship #business #AI

During his 2025 CES keynote, Jensen Huang outlined what I call the <Paradigm of Jolting ⚡️Technologies > in AI architectures. Back in 1999, I was introduced to the concept of S-curves while studying Management of Innovation at UCD in Dublin. It provided a framework for understanding how technologies grow, plateau, and get surpassed. Ray Kurzweil’s The Singularity is Near reshaped my thinking—showing how exponential technologies compound to create super-exponentials. Today, we’re witnessing it. AI is not plateauing. Instead, its power is accelerating exponentially faster, with innovations in pre-training, post-training, and real-time reasoning shortening the doubling rate of intelligence. I know skepticism abounds—as it always does with disruption—but I firmly believe AI will drive a fundamental, and likely abrupt, shift in how we approach innovation across science and engineering. This shift will ripple across society and economies, demanding a thoughtful approach to managing the change. Here’s what I believe is critical for navigating this <era of jolting technologies>: 1. Adopt a change mindset: Agility, curiosity, and openness to the unknown are no longer optional—they’re survival skills. 2. Slow down to move forward: Presence and reflection will be essential for navigating rapid change. Slowing down allows us to act with clarity, creativity, and purpose amidst the noise. 3. Reimagine work, education, and careers: As AI transforms industries, we must fundamentally rethink how we learn, contribute, and create value—on a massive scale. The abruptness of this change will stem from today’s skepticism. But I believe that embracing these principles can turn disruption into opportunity and help us thrive in the new paradigm. 📈 AI Startup Sierra Expands HQ in San Francisco (4K to 41K SF) 🌁 Artificial intelligence firm Sierra is making a bold move by relocating to a larger office within San Francisco. The startup has signed a lease for a 41,104-square-foot space at 235 Second St., significantly upsizing from its current 4,000-square-foot office. 🏢 This move to San Francisco's South of Market neighborhood, where office vacancy rates have started to decline for the first time since 2020, is a positive sign for the city's hard-hit office market. The area's office vacancy rate, though still high at 28.8%, is slightly lower than six months ago. 📉 The deal contributes to the increase in leasing activity in San Francisco, which is up by about 1 million square feet compared to last year. This uptick is driven by the region's reputation as a leading national hub for AI companies. 💼 Sierra joins other AI firms expanding in the South of Market area, including Scale AI, which signed the city's largest office lease of 2024 with a 178,000-square-foot deal. So far this year, office tenants have signed leases totaling 750,000 square feet in South of Market, a significant increase from last year's 370,000 square feet. 🚀 Co-founded in 2023 by former Salesforce CEO Bret Taylor and former Google executive Clay Bavor, Sierra raised $85 million earlier this year to develop a customer support AI tool for businesses. The firm is set to relocate from its current space at 215 Second St. by next month. San Francisco's reputation as an AI hub, bolstered by its talent pool and six major AI research institutions, continues to attract companies. Recent significant deals include OpenAI’s sublease of over 400,000 square feet of Uber’s former headquarters and Anthropic’s takeover of Slack's former headquarters. These developments reflect a resilient and adaptive real estate market. Is Nvidia over-bought? ⏰ Timing is everything. There is no doubt that AI is important.
