I am not sure Google’s primary duty should be to shareholders, including mass firings to pay for GPUs. As a shareholder, I am thankful to be able to own a few shares of Google in my retirement account. But Delaware Supreme Court case law serves unjustly as a faux federal loophole to maximize profits above all else, enabling amoral fiduciary duty to conventional shareholders. And it seems that employees are shareholders - should one class of shareholders be favored over another? It seems like the law needs to include stakeholders like the economy in which a company arises and the communities in which it does business. If a given government has a shrinking middle class, is it not true that eventually the corporate tax base will not be enough to pay for adequate national defense or safety nets? I happen to be pro-Google, especially because of their contribution to help so many businesses utilize the trackable ROI of Google Ads, and for many other reasons. As far as I know they obey the law - and it seems like the law needs to change. I also happen to believe it is good for the world to spread economic opportunity and jobs. But what makes up for all the money and tax these core Google employees were spending on the American economy, or the people who will lose out on a job opportunity because a Xoogler applied? Housing costs in SF are insane, what about their mortgages? Maybe they are millionaires, maybe not. I kind of doubt Google fired AI engineers, but maybe instead of hiring domestically they will hire wherever the AI labor is cheapest. I happen to be pro-immigration and my ancestors were immigrants. I don’t pretend to presume the right balance of domestic and offshore workers. I have been very pleased to collaborate with people and pay them out of pocket and be able to afford it because of the labor discount. But I am not a hugely profitable corporation either. I tend to believe in unfettered capitalism and that too much tax and regulation can stymie an economy and hurt everyone. Yet an economy needs to be sustainable, and not just for conventional shareholders. I am not sure there is a check and balance to the “duty to shareholders”. Public outcry used to be one, but not anymore, not after the massive tech hiring and layoffs. Maybe it is just competition. But it doesn’t seem biomimetic, as in natural balance between various forces in a biological system. If an economy was a body and large corporations were organs in the body, if money was water and employees are like blood, then the corporate organs seem to be growing abnormally and taking more moisture out of the system. In a normal body the organs would have limited growth but in this body the corporate organs are growing larger, while the rest of the body slowly dries out, and blood clots form from employees who are no longer needed. The corporate organs are less reliant on employees and are now making their own blood and selling it.

AI Self Healing is live AQUMEN LABS. Over the past month, the team has been working hard to reduce costs incurred by AI during automation. AI self-healing helped us in : 1. Reducing test writing and automation by 90% - We wrote a test for login and completing an FTUE of a game in just 2 minutes [Faster than other low code tools] and not to mention the Game is in UNITY [Yes we support Unity :) ]. 2. Reduce the Maintenance of the test script by 80%. The test will be healed when you select the Heal checkbox on your test step. 3. We have successfully implemented a Hybrid approach, where our framework is intelligent enough to decide whether to use AI, which helped us in reducing the cost. For cost reference: MultiOn [an agentic AI] uses 0.04$ per step and AQUMEN LABS uses 0.03$ per step executed and that too in an intelligent way :) This is purely a Vision-Based Multi-Model approach we do not use any locators to heal. Presenting at #MRCVegas2024 was a true pleasure and the response to our session, "Future of Strong Auth – Passkey" was fantastic. Shout out to Anand Bahety, Mahendar Madhavan, and the team for their invaluable contribution in enabling passkey capabilities for eBay users. Also, thanks to Kathryn Irwin and Julie Fergerson, CPFPP from #MRC for the opportunity and for making this conference possible. A few things to share on the topic of Passkey and its impact on payment risk management: 1. Passkey has significant potential as an option for 3DS, a standard currently in draft at EMVCo. If anyone is interested in learning or collaborating further, feel free to reach out to Ulrich Herberg, Ph.D. from eBay who has been actively involved in these discussions. 2. It would be particularly intriguing to see how EU regulations will classify passkey—whether as a two-factor or as a single-factor authentication method. 3. I learned from some of my friends about how some EU banks are already adopting mobile apps for verification over SMS. Similar innovations in the U.S. would be awesome! I'm eager to hear your thoughts on the following topics: 1. Has the widespread adoption of 3DS in the EU indeed resulted in lower chargebacks compared to the U.S.? 2. Given Passkey's potential, do you think it has the capability to not only safeguard accounts but also mitigate first-party chargebacks?

Great discussion about "founder mode" with Shreyas Doshi. Well worth the watch/listen regardless of where you find yourself. INDstocks by INDmoney saw almost 3x scale of concurrent users using the application through the last 3 days. As #India was getting prepared for its much awaited #generalElectionResults, the Engineering team at INDmoney embraced this challenge of getting ready for humungous scale. While many brokers had issues scaling for this traffic surge, primarily on June 3 (Monday), #INDstocks was quite resilient and gave all it's users highly reliable trading experience on all the three days (June 3 - 5). We have achieved this through a lot of best practices in #Engineering. All our Backends are independently scalable micro services, which gives us greater flexibility. We decoupled core components to a large extent, which allows seamless experience to our users on both Apps and website, even in the events of unprecedented scale. On days when volatility hits through the roof, an ultra-efficient square-off system which protects users from going into dangerous circuits and thereby losing money, is of paramount importance. Through our #INDprotect feature, our users' square-off orders were sent to exchanges in under 5 ms, which helped users reduce their losses significantly! At the market open, we saw close to 50% more price ticks from exchanges on June 4 and INDstocks users didn't have to face any latency in viewing the live prices on their web / mobile devices. The products team's fixation on milestones tends to divert their attention from the broader perspective. They hop from one feature to another, enamored by each glowing aspect. Individuals work in isolated bubbles, fixated on ticking off one milestone after another, sometimes without significant displacement. Very excited to share that I've completed an enriching Natural Language Processing(NLP) course at UC Berkeley this quarter(Part of my Masters degree)! Delving into the intricacies of language comprehension and analysis has been truly enlightening. As we explored concepts like information extraction, sentiment analysis, and machine translation, I couldn't help but reflect on the significance of attention in NLP. Indeed, "Attention is all you need"(Transformer based model) proved to be a guiding principle throughout our studies. Had a great time at the Uber Gen AI Meetup in Bangalore! As I'm starting my Gen AI learning journey, it was amazing to see how experts are using AI to solve real problems. Following are some of the highlights from the event: - Jayaram Valliyur set the stage with their welcome and keynote on Uber's advancements in GenAI - Vivasvat Keswani introduced Uber's Michelangelo: Platform to build, deploy, and operate machine learning/ GenAI solutions at Uber’s scale - Sameera Poduri showed us how Uber is using Generative AI to make customer service better. - Varsha Mahadevan from Coinbase discussed the importance of keeping AI safe and secure in applications, focusing on prompt injection and implementing guardrails to prevent misuse. - Lokesh Agarwal from Kognitos discussed how AI could change our future - Pratyush Kumar from Sarvam AI emphasized the importance of using Indian languages in AI, making it more inclusive and also discussed building a full stack GenAI platform - Rush Tehrani from Uber focused on scaling ML infrastructure, deployment and serving of LLMs at Scale - Manyata Goyal and Geeti Oberoi introduced us to Uber’s tool, uLabel, which is Uber's labeling framework / data annotation solution that helps with organising data. - Ayush Garg, Chanakya Malireddy, Radhesh Sarma, and Georgy Mathew brought to light various advanced techniques like RAG-based chatbots, dynamic few-shot prompting, auto evaluation framework, showcasing Uber's leadership in applying AI to solve complex problems. - Smit Shah spoke on extracting actionable insights from LLMs, another testament to the practical uses of AI in business operations. - Ajeet Ganga explained how they're leveraging Gen AI to help manage Uber's workforce better - Panel discussion on "Unlocking the Value of Gen AI" moderated by Sameera Poduri featured Rohit Chatter from Walmart, @Vivasvat Keswani from Uber and Saurabh Dash from Cohere, along with Pratyush Kumar from Sarvam AI, offering diverse perspectives on the integration and impact of AI technologies across various sectors. Although it's extremely hard to predict the future, our curiosity about it never ends. 🔮 We look up to folks who have 'created the future in the past'!! One of them is Vinod Khosla. Recently, he made predictions about the future, and here they are: 1. 🚀 Expertise will be near free: We'll be capable of having near-free AI doctors for every person and AI tutors for every child, 24*7. 2. 💼 Labour will be near free: We'll have a billion bipedal (and other) robots freeing humans from the servitude of undesirable jobs. 3. 💻 Computer use will grow expansively: There will be a billion+ programmers all "programming" in human language, dramatically increasing the scope of computers. Computers will adapt to humans, not humans to computers. 4. 🎬 AI will play a big role in entertainment and design: Music and entertainment will be plentiful and personalized for you and your mood. 5. 🌐 Internet access will be mostly by agents: Most consumer access of the internet will be agents acting for consumers, doing tasks and fending off marketers and bots. 6. 🩺 From the practice to the science of medicine: We'll be capable of providing precision care based on patients' -omics, as well as AI models of each individual, enabling simulation of each body for therapeutics, dosages, etc. 7. 🥩 We will have new foods and fertilizers: We'll have much better alternative protein production to replace traditional animal protein, and "green" fertilizer. 8. 🚗 Cars could be displaced in cities: We could replace most cars in cities with personal autonomous transit as on-demand, affordable, public transit, increasing street throughput dramatically. 9. ✈️ Flying will be faster: We'll have Mach 5 planes that get us from NYC to London in 90 minutes on sustainable aviation fuel, making the world closer! 10. ⚡ There will be clean, dispatchable electric power: By 2050, fusion boilers will retrofit and replace coal and natural gas boilers, reducing the need to build whole new fusion plants. Here's why prompt engineering is one of today's most valuable skills. VentureBeat recently published an article by Deven Panchal of AT&T Labs. I applaud Deven for his vision. He says, "A well-crafted prompt can significantly impact the quality and relevance of the output of LLMs." So many are refusing to accept this. Mainly because prompting uses natural language. They are misguided, assuming AI can expertly prompt for them. Even if it can someday (which I doubt), it can’t today. The closest thing is SmartGPT 2.0, which still can’t compete with an expert prompt engineer. Back then it seemed inevitable that we would have self-driving cars by now, and some predictions I made were wrong. Overall, though, I think this talk has aged reasonably well. Little did I know back then that the reference to the 2016 MaxSAT I gave would spark the creation of a new company, InsideOpt. The Seeker Solver that we sell is based on the technology outlined, and it is changing the optimization landscape. On the social implications, we since edited a special issue of the AI Magazine on the social disruption that AI brings. More work is needed. We need to have a wide societal discourse on how we are going to share the increasing wealth that AI brings to the world. #insideopt.com
