Although big and chunky cloud MPP databases are cool, I've always been a fan of open-source, compact, no-dependencies software, where vibrant community support and genuine love for product (and users) allow it to thrive among many commercial counterparts. #SQLite is great, so is #PostgreSQL, and now #DuckDB is emerging as the "hummingbird" of OLAP databases - small, fast and easy to manage. While it’s not (yet) as mature or feature-rich as some entrenched incumbents, it has already shown an immense potential for middleware-type workloads, where speed, #SQL expressiveness and interoperability are key. Since we launched Redshift Streaming Ingestion with Kinesis Data Streams (KDS) and Managed Streaming for Apache Kafka (MSK) we have seen great adoption with thousands of customers ingesting data at very high rates with low latency directly to Redshift Managed Storage. One common request was to extend the ingestion capabilities to other Kafka sources. Today we are extending Redshift's Streaming Ingestion to support self-managed Apache Kafka on EC2 as well as partners, such as Confluent Cloud. To all AWS RI users, particularly those focusing on RDS: When managing your RDS compute family class, it's crucial to consider the relevant multiplier to align your running instances with reserved recommendations. For instance, if you have 3 RDS instances of db.r5.4xlarge, with a family/type multiplier of 8, you are actually utilizing 24 compute units when reserving capacity. To simplify this process, normalize to the r5.* lowest class, and the multiplier will indicate how many of the same instances you need. #AWS #RI #RDS #ComputeFamily #ReservedInstances #CloudComputing

I have been leveraging GCP for TrussHealth's AI and data storage, along with addressing customer data related issues in previous roles. Google's transparency in addressing and resolving recent data loss incidents instills confidence in their commitment to customer support and functional operational processes. Although data loss is a significant concern for enterprise storage, it is commendable to see cloud providers like Google openly acknowledge such challenges and demonstrate dedication to continuous improvement. We used #AWS Bedrock, Lambda, S3, AWS DynamoDB, and SQS to speed up clinical referral processing by 80%, achieving 95% accuracy. Over 100 million referrals are requested annually, yet nearly half are incomplete. Consequence—incomplete transfers of patient records, test results, and other critical information between primary care providers and specialists, resulting in delayed patient care! Launching big features and services is fun, but to me the more exciting features are those that start with a request from our customers. Sometimes it's the seemingly little features that have large impact to the quality of life of our customers. Maybe the coolest part of this feature is that you can now get IO latency histograms, and not just averages, directly from your instance, all from the perspective of the EBS service.
