I reached a continuing education goal by passing two exams for the ITIL 4 Strategic Leader designation. The coursework focuses on the ITIL framework and methodology for setting strategy, planning, directing, and improving IT operations within a business. Many operational methods I use in IT service management follow the ITIL guidelines and principles. I like the ITIL approach as it is not technology-specific and focuses on value in service delivery. Defining a roll-out plan that goes beyond just the technology is essential for user adoption; clearly defining communication and support channels is essential. We find the most successful projects are those that involve the end users right through the configuration phase into pilot and on to production. As our products are so configurable, even after go live, we can often further refine our solution to fix pain points for users without major rework.
