Clean Grid Alliance
RWE and Peabody Energy are partnering to develop renewable energy projects on repurposed mining lands in the Midwest. The renewable projects planned for the reclaimed lands have the potential to generate enough electricity to power the equivalent of more than 850,000 homes across the region. The partnership will allow for projects to be developed in rural areas without impacting farmland, while still bringing important economic benefits to the area.

Powering Up Wyoming
Powering Up Wyoming was thrilled to participate in the third annual Wyoming Energy Authority Energy Summit, featuring speakers and panelists from every energy sector across Wyoming, showcasing the powerhouse of energy production and innovation the Equality State is and how the state can support future projects and remain competitive across all areas. During the Energy Summit, PUW led a panel discussion titled “Working Together, Renewables in Wyoming,” with panelists Ryan Fitzpatrick from NextEra Energy, Rawlins Mayor Terry Weickum, and David Fuller from Power Company of Wyoming. Panelists highlighted the billions of dollars of investment in renewable projects and hundreds of millions of dollars of tax revenue going directly to the state and local communities. Mayor Terry Weickum discussed how, without these taxes, Carbon County towns would not have been able to purchase critical needs such as ambulances and police vehicles. Competition with surrounding states was a discussion point. David Fuller emphasized how, when competing with our neighboring states, we are usually “pennies apart” from securing future projects whose investment and taxes provide critical revenue to our towns and counties. During this legislative interim, there will be discussions on generation tax and other renewable energy related policies. As Wyoming leaders continue to discuss this issue, we must recognize that remaining competitive is essential to keeping and attracting businesses to our state. Businesses and industries need certainty; we cannot afford to lose major investments and revenue to our neighboring states. To see the discussion at the WEA Energy Summit, our panel begins at timestamp 2:22:35. https://lnkd.in/g4jeT4SE

Natural Gas demand grows to 600 m/ty in 2050 as fossils demand excess supply. Mexico become big exporter. Global natural gas demand is forecast to break records in 2024 and 2025, with modest growth in LNG supply driving tightness in the market, according to the International Energy Agency. Given Mexico’s proximity and pipeline connectivity to natural gas produced in the Permian Basin in western Texas and southeastern New Mexico, the buildout of LNG export facilities in the country provides an outlet for surplus U.S. production to be shipped to European and Asian markets. The big story of Mexican LNG potential begins in the Permian Basin, primarily located in West Texas and southeastern New Mexico. This area is one of the most prolific oil and gas regions in the United States. Its natural gas production has significant implications for all of Mexico, including LNG exports. The Permian Basin has seen substantial increases in natural gas production, driven by the boom in oil extraction. This surplus gas is often transported to Mexico, where it can be used for domestic power generation or liquefied for export. Enhanced pipeline infrastructure has facilitated exports from the Permian to Mexico. Major pipelines, such as the Waha and Trans-Pecos pipelines, connect the Permian Basin to Mexico, enabling efficient gas transport. Mexico has a growing demand for natural gas, primarily for electricity generation and industrial use. The country increasingly relies on U.S. natural gas to meet its energy needs, making the Permian Basin a key supplier. The bonanza of Permian gas available to Mexico has incentivized the development of LNG export facilities built along the coast of Sonora on the Sea of Cortez, which have a geographic advantage in terms of closeness to the Asian markets. Natural gas from the Permian can feed these facilities, positioning Mexico as a potential LNG exporter to global markets. While other LNG exports are happening in Mexico, such as New Fortress's Altamira project, the strong energy trade relationship between the U.S. and Mexico, facilitated by trade agreements, supports the flow of Permian gas into Mexico and makes the potential export volume huge. However, regional politics and regulatory changes can impact this dynamic. The Permian Basin plays a crucial role in supplying natural gas to Mexico, which can then be used for domestic energy needs, converted into LNG for export, or both. This relationship enhances both countries' energy security and economic benefits while presenting its fair share of challenges. https://lnkd.in/gWnMe46x

Turning coal-fired power plants into energy storage projects? Yes, please!🎆🔋💪 Last week, Arizona utility SRP (Salt River Project) launched an RFP for non-lithium long-duration energy storage. The project will split into two specific sites, one of which is an old coal-fired power plant about to be decomposed. Great idea for repurposing!☘️ This project is long-duration storage (10-hour discharge), ranging from 5MW minimum output to 50MW. The company is open to both inverter-based and non-inverter-based technologies.🔭 Even though Li-Ion already finds its purpose in 8-hour-duration projects, we are very much looking forward to seeing a new approach in the storage world, both for longer durations and different technologies in use!🚀 Check the whole article here: 👉https://hubs.la/Q02DXRFN0 #LDES #batteryoptimization #BESS #batterystorage
