Watching this video made me jump up and down with excitement. The reason being that I had an exectly the same discussion on the same topic with my Director Customer Success when she was India recently. I expressed my desire to enroll myself in an internal leadership training. However my Director was of the opinion that I should learn how to lead even when I don’t have that manager position. She said that anybody can get the work done when they have the position. The real thing is influencing and leading in an individual contributor role. I am on the look out for some external training on this topic. Also this video made me content with the fact that I had a great management education from XIME. 🔍 Reflections from My First In-Person TPM Summit- 2024 by TPM Events, a nonprofit corporation What an amazing experience to be part of the TPM community, witnessing inspiring talks on topics that truly resonate with how we function and how we should excel as TPMs. This was my first ever in-person TPM summit, and I’ve come away with invaluable insights. The summit kicked off with an energetic talk by Jen Krieger, highlighting those extra steps we can take as TPMs to ensure our leaders not only recognize our work but know us by name. Her perspective on defining impact—focusing on quality over quantity—was particularly eye-opening. I was fortunate enough to meet and briefly chat with the legendary Mario Gerard, whose pioneering work in TPM guidance has been a source of inspiration for many of us. It was also a privilege to connect with James Dayhuff , who’s been writing phenomenal content on improving TPM workflows, integrating AI into daily tasks, and enhancing our prompt engineering practices. Throughout the summit, I found the insights incredibly valuable. Here are a few of my key takeaways: 1. Aadil Maan's reminder on the importance of decomposition—breaking down systems, connectors, rules, and constraints to work more efficiently as TPMs—was pure gold. And the advice to always be “intensely curious” is something I’ll carry with me. 2. Satish Mummareddy's session on leading cross-functional teams as an IC delved into influencing without authority, fostering win-win conversations, and assessing complexity from multiple perspectives—critical skills for any TPM. 3. Priya Sethuraman added relatable pointers in the panel discussion on adopting and embracing AI in the TPM role which provided a glimpse into the future of our profession and how we can leverage new technologies. Meeting so many successful fellow TPMs and hearing their passion for this work was refreshing. Feeling inspired and ready to apply these lessons to my journey! 🙂 #tpmsummit2024

📌 I recently had the privilege of attending the Efficient Generative AI Summit, which kicked off with a Pre-Day at The Westin, San Jose,  followed by three action-packed days at Signia by Hilton, San Jose. Over the course of four days, experts from companies like Uber, Google, Siemens, Microsoft, and many more shared how they’re leveraging generative AI to transform industries. The event featured insightful discussions on key topics, including: → The journey from experimentation to production in Generative AI. → Enhancing AI hardware efficiency and customer service interactions with Generative AI. → Future AI systems design and the potential of AI agents. → The economic and environmental impact of AI inference deployment. → Building resilient, fault-tolerant AI systems. → Deploying AI from the cloud to the client for transformative solutions. → Innovations in Generative AI technologies and the exploration of inefficiencies in AI & many more. The best part of the event was hearing AI hardware companies and their potential customers share their requirements and future AI use case predictions for the next five years. We had an impressive lineup of speakers including: → Ankur Mehrotra (Director and GM, Amazon SageMaker, AWS),  → Saket Agarwal (Senior Director and Head of Engineering, Uber),  → Partha Ranganathan (VP & Engineering Fellow, Google),  → Ankur Gupta (Senior Vice President and General Manager, Siemens EDA),  → Dan Rabinovitsj (VP, Infrastructure, Meta),  → Mark Russinovich (CTO and Technical Fellow, Azure, Microsoft),  →  Baskar Sridharan (Vice President, AI/ML Services & Infrastructure, AWS), and many more who shared their insights on the future of AI. The key takeaways from the event: 1️⃣ Prioritize projects: → 2024 is the year to move from POCs to full-scale production. Choose projects that deliver real value. 2️⃣ Optimize costs: → Solutions like Amazon SageMaker are removing the heavy lifting, allowing businesses to scale AI without breaking the bank.   3️⃣ AI hardware: → Don’t overlook the hardware—cloud platforms and AI accelerators are critical for scaling AI efficiently. 4️⃣ Customization: → Tailor AI models to your needs, whether you're training your own models or using pre-built solutions. It’s not enough to just increase the number of women entering into men-dominated spaces; we also need there to be more women leaders in those spaces if we want to increase the likelihood that those junior women succeed."

Earlier this month, on June 11, we celebrated our 20th Anniversary at the Post-Industrial Institute. We were fortunate to have a great panel of guest speakers: Heather Jerrehian from ServiceNow, Dr. Mihir Parikh from Nishith Desai Associates, and Stefan Petzov from Swisscom, expertly moderated by Alison McCauley of Unblocked Future. The panel provided fascinating snapshots of how the enterprise is being reinvented from the inside out. Dr. Suresh Sunderrajan, SRI's President of Commercialization, provided welcoming remarks. We are grateful to have SRI as a supportive partner. Yours truly gave a talk attempting to summarize what we have learned in our quest to reinvent management science and support leaders building the organizations of the future. It was really an impossible task. Over the past 20 years, we have covered organizational design and transformation from A-Z, in theory and in practice. Our early work on the modernization of management practices for knowledge work, our predictions about the impact of decentralization and AI, it has all come to pass. Of course, for AI it's still early days, and decentralization of manufacturing and agriculture is also in an early stage. But it's coming. So what's next? In our upcoming Post-Industrial Summit 2024 FALL, on November 5-6, we will be focusing Super-Productivity and AI Agents. We will be looking at the revolutionary impact of AI on work and careers, and we'll examine other aspects of work as well. AI will make people MORE important, not less. Enterprises are not as well prepared as they should be. The Summit will again be hosted by SRI in Menlo Park. Mark your calendars, we'll provide more details soon. Have a great weekend, everyone!

Last night’s final ProductTank of 2024 was great. Vidya Dinamani, author of “Groundwork: Get Better at Making Better Products”, delivered a powerful talk on getting back to basics in product management: • Mindset: Represent the customer and stay in learning mode. • Resources: Ensure teams have access to the right tools and leadership. • Skills: Focus on understanding customer problems and using data effectively. Joshua has once again delivered amazing value to the TPM Community in the form of his 2nd edition Technical Program Management Handbook. (He also launched the amazing cross-industry-cutting TPM Summit event with a few other equally awesome co-leads: Josie Gillan, Zhanat Abylkassym, plus Josh's wife as an honorary TPM.) But let's look back at the book. Here's a glimpse of how his book delivers the WOW factor: First off, it is very comprehensive: from career paths to hard skills to soft skills and beyond. It truly is a handbook, ie a guide to doing the job really well. My full-length review will focus on the things that make his book unique among other TPM books: 1️⃣ A pragmatic deconstruction of Emotional Intelligence as a TPM 2️⃣ A section dedicated to TPM's Driving Clarity.
