Too many salespeople when cold calling are NOT synced up with their prospects. They want to push their agenda instead of LISTENING. Instead, you must do the counterintuitive thing to AVOID selling too early. Listen, discuss, get on the same page, before even attempting any closing/selling activity. Otherwise, you're just gonna at best annoy the prospect and at worst, piss them off. No great salesperson has ever said to their sales leader, "Thanks for expecting so little of me." And no great leader ever succeeds with low or average expectations. There's a lot of debate out there about "what % of your sales team should be hitting quota." And it seems many sales leaders are trying to make it easy on their team by lowering the bar. They think they’re doing their reps a favor. ⛔ Spoiler alert: they’re not. In my experience, no good deed goes unpunished. Your reps will never thank you and your board will think you're leaving lots of money on the table. The best sales leaders expect more from their reps. They challenge their teams to stretch beyond what’s *comfortable.* ✅ Because when you expect more, you get more. I’ve been lucky to work with some of the best. They set the bar high—not to be harsh, but because they believed in our potential and had high expectations of themselves. Great salespeople want to be pushed, even if they don’t always admit it. 📈 If you want greatness, start raising your expectations—because no one ever said “thanks” for being mediocre.
