Saks will now have Neiman Marcus, Bergdorf Goodman, Saks Fifth Avenue, and Saks OFF 5TH in its portfolio. Under the agreement, first reported this summer, Saks will acquire 36 Neiman Marcus stores across key states like California, Texas, Florida, Illinois, and New York. The acquisition was funded with equity contributions from major players like Amazon, Salesforce, and Authentic Brands Group (known for Reebok, Forever 21, and Billabong). According to Bloomberg, the move aims to boost profitability by leveraging stronger vendor relationships and reducing supply chain costs.

Today Robb Report picked up and covered the findings of Collective Horology's first ever Collective Voice study. The study looked at attitudinal data, but also gave respondents the chance to answer a number of open ended questions about their feelings regarding the modern watch market. The findings, which can you read about in the attached article, paint a positive image - but not without its warnings. Collectors are still quite passionate, with 72% of respondents stating that the industry is in a “strong” or “very strong” position. However, there's still a large segment - 15% - that are not optimistic about the future of the watch industry. On the positive side, collectors want to see more risk taking and creativity from manufactures: for brand CEOs this is great news. If you were wondering if this was the year to launch that crazy project, the answer appears to be "yes." However, pricing remains a significant barrier to purchase. With the consecutive quarter-upon-quarter decline of the secondary market, new watches are now being cross-shopped with pre-owned "deals" making value and value retention a major consideration for collectors. The deeper I get into the jewelry supply chain, the more I’m going to campaign for the need to further defragment and connect it. E-commerce standards are still an absolute mess. There’s no universal ethics/sustainability standard, yet. Data structures and ERPs…my goodness. Diamond manufacturer APIs…😑 (I still love you guys though - at least you’re trying) So much to solve. I’ve heard recent horror stories from customers thinking they’re buying one thing and get another…this is a real concern out there still. Customers are STILL afraid of getting duped or misled. The middle market still has to reckon with this. It seems like top end of the supply chain does all of this incredible work to be transparent, ethical and sustainable…then by the time it reaches some of the B2B supply chain, that value gets thrown out the window and lost. Forget about it reaching the consumer accurately. No wonder the consumer is confused!

This is not just a debate about imitation, but a broader discussion on the pursuit of authentic luxury versus an economy increasingly inclined to democratise every aspect of human desire, including the aspiration to own an iconic item. The Birkin is not just a bag: it is a symbol of craftsmanship, exclusivity, and status. Each piece results from hours of meticulous work by master artisans, using selected materials and featuring an unmatched design. However, its price — which can reach astronomical figures — represents an insurmountable barrier for most people, even for those with significant financial means. This is where the Wirkin comes in: a product that, at under $100, offers a semblance of the Birkin experience. For some, it’s a democratisation; for others, a trivialisation. Defending originality is essential. Hermès has built its reputation on values far beyond marketing: quality, dedication, and an obsessive attention to detail. Each Birkin tells a story of tradition and innovation, a narrative at risk of being drowned out by the proliferation of imitations offering only superficial similarity. However, this doesn’t mean ignoring an equally undeniable reality: luxury must confront an ethical sustainability crisis, not only environmentally but economically. What is SLUDGE CONTENT doing inside a puzzle? How did we get to learn about Lili Elbe when the answer ELBE almost always refers to the German river? Welcome to the crossword in the age of Gen Z. Clues require internet meme literacy. Solutions may reflect the identity of the person behind the puzzle. And the way they’re constructed can involve vibrant online forums in addition to scraps of paper. Grids these days are often “diaristic,” said Paolo Pasco, 23, the winner of this year’s American Crossword Puzzle Tournament, the Super Bowl of crosswords. They can reveal clusters of personal obsessions or glimpses of an idiosyncratic sense of humor. “That’s a big part of what got me into puzzles,” Mr. Pasco said. “This is an insight into the person’s brain who thought of that joke.” It’s a noticeable shift from decades past, when crosswords were usually faceless, less a site for auteurism than a form of anonymous entertainment.
