I'm thrilled to share highlights from our recent meeting held in the beautiful landscape of Italy. Led by Markus Renschler, MD, Light Horse Therapeutics has made significant progress in the oncology space with a $62M #SeriesA funding round led by MPM BioImpact and Omega Funds, alongside Novartis Venture Fund. This marks a big step for their work in developing LHT-001, a promising candidate targeting critical cancer pathways. May 16 is #HAEDay. While it seems like there is a “day” acknowledging everything nowadays, this one is particularly special to me and my colleagues at CSL Behring. Why? Because hereditary angioedema (HAE) can be a fierce and unpredictable disease. Imagine living life feeling like a ticking time bomb, with almost no notice on when or where a swelling attack could occur. And when it does, the best-case scenario is that it sidelines your day, and in the worst case, it sends you to the hospital. AT ANY TIME.   HAE is estimated to affect 1 in every 40,000–50,000 people globally. So on a day like today, I reflect with pride that the company I work for creates hope for people living with HAE. Our portfolio of plasma-derived and recombinant therapies gives them a sense of control over an otherwise uncontrollable situation. Whether their day was a trip to the grocery store, or a trip to Paris, they can be more prepared and enjoy more of what life has to offer. We started out Q1 with cautious optimism and the numbers continue to show the confidence was warranted. Biopharma M&A activity more than doubled nationally during the year’s first three months, coinciding with a rebound in venture capital deals as well as a flurry of IPOs. These are all good signs that the drug development cycle is normalizing and should translate into additional funding being available at the seed and Series A stages. Recordati continues to push forward in the rare disease sector with an $825M upfront acquisition of Sanofi's Enjaymo, a treatment for cold agglutinin disease (CAD). This move highlights Recordati's commitment to expanding its portfolio and addressing rare diseases with significant unmet needs. Enjaymo, the first FDA-approved treatment for CAD, provides much-needed relief for patients suffering from this chronic autoimmune disorder. As we see Recordati making bold moves in this space, it's a reminder of how innovation and strategic acquisitions can drive progress in healthcare—especially in areas that often don't get the attention they deserve.
