There are two solid-state memory successes on the planet. Those are DRAM and NAND. Both have been successful because they are good at what they do *and* because they have found success in multiple markets (especially mobile and data-center). Memory needs scale in order to be manufactured at low cost. As someone once told me "niche and memory should never go together." The explosive growth of AI workloads has driven the demand for vector processing engines like GPUs. And, in addition, they have led to a demand for faster and more efficient memory interfaces (namely HBM). This small article talks about two interesting things. The first is the massive predicted growth for HBM between now and 2029 (38% CAGR). The other is the prediction that DRAM will transition from 6F2 to 4F2 leading to DRAM cost reductions without needed new lithography nodes. I think 2024-2029 could be a very interesting and profitable few years for the memory vendors. We shall see how it plays out. https://lnkd.in/gXWjBhiJ
