In contrast, Pakistan's ICT sector exports have increased by an average of 20% annually during this period, but its global market share has only improved by 0.25%. New Trade Route: Kashgar-Kabul Strengthens Ties Between China, Pakistan, and Afghanistan Summary: The new TIR route between Kashgar in China and Kabul in Afghanistan represents a significant step in developing the region's transport infrastructure. Supported by IRU and NLC, this project strengthens economic ties between China, Pakistan, and Afghanistan by reducing delivery times and lowering logistics costs. Context: The International Road Transport Union (IRU) has announced the registration of a new TIR trade route (Transport International Routier, international transit transport system) between Kashgar (Xinjiang, China) and Kabul (Afghanistan). This route is part of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), connecting China with the Middle East and Europe through Pakistan. The first shipment along this route was successfully completed at the end of 2023, thanks to the collaboration between CEVA Logistics and Pakistan's National Logistics Corporation (NLC). The TIR system reduced delivery time by 70% and logistics costs by 50%. Analysis: ◼️ The launch of the new TIR trade route between Kashgar and Kabul represents a significant achievement in regional logistics and trade development. The route, which has become part of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), plays a crucial role in strengthening economic ties between China, Pakistan, and Afghanistan. The first shipment was sent on August 24, 2023, from Kashgar, crossed the border with Pakistan via the Khunjerab Pass, and reached Kabul on September 3, taking only 10 days. ◼️ Using the TIR system (international transit transport system), delivery has become significantly faster and cheaper, which is particularly important for a region where maritime routes previously dominated, taking much longer. The introduction of this route opens new opportunities for international trade and improves the sustainability and security of logistics in the region. Afghanistan, playing a key role in this process, aims to become an important transit hub, enhancing its trade capabilities. ◼️ According to the Observatory of Economic Complexity (OEC), in 2022, China exported $551 million worth of goods to Afghanistan, while Afghanistan exported $41 million worth of goods to China, resulting in a total bilateral trade volume of about $592 million. This is lower than in 2017 when the total trade volume was $1.01 billion, and over the past five years, China's exports to Afghanistan have decreased by 11.4% annually. The development of this route aims to strengthen the economic relations between the two sides. ◼️ Additionally, IRU (International Road Transport Union) and NLC (National Logistics Corporation of Pakistan) continue to work on developing additional international transport corridors, including routes connecting Islamabad with Tehran and Istanbul, as well as other connections to Central Asia. These efforts aim to improve trade efficiency and strengthen economic integration in the region.

This currency aims to challenge the dominance of the US dollar in global trade by facilitating trade and investment among BRICS nations in their local currencies. Design: Unit is designed to be apolitical, utilizing blockchain technology to ensure that no single country can leverage the system for political gain. It's backed by a basket of currencies and up to 40% by gold, aiming for stability and credibility. Purpose: The primary goal is to reduce vulnerability to dollar exchange rate fluctuations and sanctions, especially in light of recent geopolitical tensions. This move is seen as part of a broader strategy to enhance economic sovereignty and push for a more multipolar world order. Digital Currencies: Russian President Vladimir Putin mentioned the exploration of digital currencies for investments, indicating a forward-looking approach to financial technology which could complement the Unit system. Economic Cooperation: The summit also focused on increasing economic ties through trade, investment, and infrastructure projects, particularly with the addition of new members like Saudi Arabia and the UAE, bringing significant oil wealth into the bloc. Global Implications: The launch of the Unit currency and the expansion of the BRICS alliance could potentially alter global economic dynamics. While some experts argue that de-dollarization might not immediately threaten the US dollar's status, these developments signal a shift towards a more balanced global financial system. Critics, however, caution about the complexities of implementing such a system, including the challenge of establishing trust and stability in a new currency framework.
