📈 Exciting news - The latest Business Confidence Change Index from PVW Partners has revealed a 1.3-point rise in confidence, signaling cautious optimism amidst ongoing economic pressures. Despite facing challenges such as staffing shortages and rising costs, many local businesses are anticipating a steady or improved demand for resources as we approach 2025. This resilience is a testament to the adaptability and determination of our business owners. Business confidence can not be underrated as a key indicator of the future health of our economy. As we look forward to the festive season, it’s encouraging to note that spending on entertainment is projected to surge, providing much-needed relief to our hospitality venues. These establishments play a vital role in our local economy and community spirit. As you plan your Christmas spend I encourage you to look at opportunities to spend locally where you can. The report noted key factors of concern amongst businesses - the escalating costs of doing business, strain of the cost of living and paid parking (which will go before a vote in council chambers today) Although we are seeing mixed sentiment from our members with some really feeling the squeeze between lower discretionary spend and higher costs to do business whilst others are cautiously optimistic about the future. In our region there are new opportunities and pipeline projects at very stages, but opportunities do not guarantee success. We need deliberate action to ensure the right enablers are in place to ensure our region is able to fully benefit. It's crucial that we address the inhibitors to business growth such as payroll tax, the escalating cost of energy and insurance as well as working together across all levels of government to address some significant challenges such as housing and securing a skilled workforce. THE END OF REPORTING AS WE KNOW IT Be honest...do you love the reports that come out your member management system? If so you are in the minority! Traditional business reporting is becoming obsolete as real-time data analytics and dynamic reporting tools have transformed how businesses operate. I recently met up with my good friend Mark Newman who spoke to me about the concept of data mesh. Traditional reports, generated from centralized data warehouses, are no longer enough for today’s fast-paced environment. The introduction of the data mesh paradigm is driving this change, leading to more dynamic and useful reports. This new approach is transforming how organizations manage and use data, making reporting faster and more relevant. Data mesh shifts from a single, centralized data system to a decentralized model where different business domains manage their own data. Think sales vs PT vs GroupX. This means that the people who know the data best are in charge of it, resulting in more accurate and timely information. Instead of relying on one big data warehouse that can slow things down, data is handled in smaller, more manageable pieces by the teams who need it most. This change has big implications for reporting. With data mesh, creating reports becomes a more flexible and collaborative process. Business users, data engineers, and analysts work together within their specific areas to produce and refine reports. This teamwork ensures that reports are not only accurate but also meet the specific needs of the business.
