I really like the clever line, but a lot of people who know English can't sit down and bang out a novel. It takes practice, training, and long hours writing and rewriting. The point of that slide was, I suppose, to suggest that to get good/great results when using generative ai, you need to write clearly, use proper sentence structure, etc. All true, of course, but... ...I think people who came up through programming have a leg up on everyone—specifically those who built applications with OOP (object oriented programming) languages like Java, Ruby, and PHP. They have experience directly applicable to writing good prompts. Object oriented programming languages have you work with objects that have properties, actions, and methods. Having familiarity with that concept helps a lot when you're trying to write a complex prompt. Just like how objects in Java have attributes and behaviors, you can structure parts of a prompt in a way that makes sense and gets the AI to respond how you want. Being able to organize stuff like that makes it easier to figure out how to craft the perfect prompt. That's just my opinion though... having been a developer I might be a little biased 😉

The CMO risks losing out to the CIO/CTO...but there is a solve. Unless CMO’s take this latest wake up call to lean in to technology - namely the Gen AI revolution - they will concede territory and influence to the IT department and CIO/CTO. Too many marketers have abdicated responsibility for technology to their teams or partners but Gen AI is so disruptive and transformative that CMO’s must take the lead. Read how you as a CMO can do that in your own organisation and what the significant macro use cases are that you should be exploring and experimenting with. This is the time of year where annual operating plans and strategic plans are being wrapped up and are being reviewed; and commercial teams are anxiously awaiting their 2025 budget. My hope is that teams have planned for two things: 1. Pilots for AI 2. No wash, rinse and repeat marketing plans, but really focused growth plans to attack the market. I led marketing teams and multi-million dollar budgets for over 20 years. I know how the planning works, and the fact is that most chronic disease states and digital health are still growing at double digit rates. If you still using the the "peanut butter" method of budgeting and "spreading a thin layer" of money across multiple objectives - many nebulous - you are likely to get left behind. Growth Marketing is specific deep analysis and diagnosis of what is inhibiting growth and planning specifically to attack the market and create an unfair competitive advantage. You should really consider how to deliver sales growth, increased revenue, more market share and not vanity metrics such as awareness, followers and views.

Very interesting post Christopher Lengle. From my perspective as a marketer, the need for better collaboration between sales and marketing is a given. But I acknowledge it's a bit "chicken and egg": 🔄 Sales say they don't always have the specific content they feel they need to amplify engagement and flows 🔄 Marketing can't always produce at scale or can't commit a budget as ROI is unsure 🔄 Other internal teams don't have the bandwidth.
