Inactive List Due to Incapacity: Rule 3-5.2 has been revised to streamline processes under a new rule, 3-7.13. Frozen Trust Accounts: Procedures for handling frozen trust funds have been relocated to new Rule 3-7.15 for better clarity. Criminal Charges Against Lawyers: State attorneys must promptly notify The Florida Bar of any indictments involving Bar members. These revisions signal important changes for Florida attorneys, particularly in disciplinary and trust account matters. Supreme Court Rules Compromise Decree Affirming Pre-Existing Property Rights Exempt from Registration and Stamp Duty: Sets Aside High Court and Revenue Authorities’ Orders, Directs Mutation in Favor of Appellant Court’s Decision: The Supreme Court allowed the appeal, holding that: A compromise decree that merely affirms pre-existing rights over immovable property does not require registration under Section 17(2)(vi) of the Registration Act, 1908. Such a decree is not chargeable with stamp duty under the Indian Stamp Act, 1899, as it does not create new rights but confirms pre-existing ones. The Court set aside the orders of the High Court, Board of Revenue, and Collector of Stamps, and directed the authorities to mutate the revenue records in favor of the appellant. Court’s Reasoning: The appellant demonstrated long possession of the land, reinforcing his pre-existing rights. The compromise decree did not transfer new rights but confirmed ownership already held by the appellant. Allegations of collusion were unsupported by evidence. The High Court’s reliance on prior judgments was misplaced, as subsequent Supreme Court rulings had clarified the law on registration and stamp duty requirements for such decrees. Conclusion: The Supreme Court overturned the High Court’s order and directed the mutation of revenue records in favor of the appellant. It held that: The compromise decree did not require registration as it pertained to the suit property and affirmed pre-existing rights. In the latest key court decision interpreting the #Copyright Act’s three-year statute of limitations, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit has rejected an argument that “sophisticated plaintiffs” should be treated differently under the discovery accrual rule. The Second Circuit reversed a district court’s dismissal on time limitations grounds of a commercial photography firm’s infringement suit against a shoe designer. The discovery rule provides that claims accrue when the plaintiff discovers or should have discovered the infringement. The district court concluded that because the photography firm touted its sophistication in detecting and litigating copyright infringements, it should have discovered the shoe designer’s alleged infringement within three years of when it commenced in August 2017. The appellate court disagreed, stating, “We have never understood the Copyright Act to employ different rules of accrual for different plaintiffs.”   For more details on the decision in Michael Grecco Productions, Inc. v.
