"At first, I was hesitant about the phrase "behavior change," but reading the book helped me address that fear. Instead of getting hung up on powerful but ultimately wishy-washy words, I jump straight to discussing desired outcomes and behaviors. Behaviors are salient—you can discuss them and compare them between contexts. It is a bit like the difference between saying you want to "delight users" and describing the behaviors you might expect if users were actually delighted. The latter is much more effective. Loving this new Cardio Load feature by Fitbit (now part of Google) ❤️🫡👌🏽 This is, after deep soul-searching and angst about Google’s Policies after they acquired Fitbit, I'm sticking with Fitbit and just migrating my data to a Gmail Account as pushed by Google for over a year! 😅 🤷🏽‍♂️ #ThoughtLeadership 🤔 Sometimes the most challenging decisions in tech come down to balancing convenience with principles. 🤹‍♂️ The Fitbit-Google acquisition sparked intense debates about data privacy and corporate control, yet here I am, amazed by features like the new cardio load tracking. 📊 Truth bomb: While we often resist BigTech acquisitions, they can lead to improved user experiences. 💡 My initial skepticism about Google's Fitbit acquisition has evolved into appreciation for enhanced functionality and seamless integration. 💀 The "Change or Die" Framework 💀 Change is daunting, but it's essential for organizational growth. A framework I often use comes from Alan Deutschman's book "Change or Die" Here's a breakdown of the three critical keys 🔑 :: Relate -> Repeat -> Reframe :: 🔗 Relate: Benchmark against companies that have successfully made similar changes. This system inspires motivation and hope, making it easier to believe that change is possible. 🔄 Repeat: Implement and reinforce new practices and processes consistently until they become second nature. Start with the smallest possible group/team and expand into the wider company as that group becomes a source others can 🔗Relate to. Repetition is vital for embedding new competencies. Overcoming initial resistance is challenging, but persistence leads to transformation. 🧠 Reframe: Reframing involves adopting new perspectives that support desired organizational shifts. This mental shift is crucial for sustaining long-term change and overcoming barriers. I have been prompted by LinkedIn to answer questions about leadership, creativity, strategy and the like. It asked me how to use curiosity when developing creative strategies. I gave it a shot. See rule 10 and feel free to let me know the answer. I will use simple axioms. 0. Know thyself. 1. Meditate daily. 2. Don’t read or watch the work of others for an extended period of time. 3. Embrace paradox and contradiction. 4. 5. Keep a notebook. 6. Write it all down. 7. Review and consider. 8. Take a walk. 9. Recognize patterns in nature. 10. Come back and tell me what number 4 is.

Oh MAN. I have so many reactions to this @JuliaAngwin op-ed. She really could not have hit my personal bull's eye harder. It's quite good, please go read it. (also nice to see a shout-out for Porsche's Roads app--powered by Mapbox!) You'll be unsurprised to hear me agree that OpenStreetMap is one of the world's essential collaborative data projects and deserves to be recognized for it. I'm in favor of more funding, but it's worth noting that its limited budgets are, to some extent, a conscious choice by the community. But governments could do a better job of releasing their data for and mapping directly in OSM (for example, by mapping road closures in OSM instead of just in a Google-owned proprietary silo--yes, they actually do this). Ms. Angwin's absolutely right that the Google/Waze dominance of the consumer nav app market is nuts. It remains a mystery why regulators didn't pay attention to it at the time. It's great to have learned since that the richest company in history can afford to mount a competing offering for residents of their walled garden. But really: where were competition authorities? Crazy. Regulators are paying more attention to how maps work these days, which is great, if belated. While I agree that there's plenty of room for criticism of app innovation given the space's stagnation, I do feel a need to grudgingly stick up for Google/Waze ETAs. We constantly benchmark our services & competitors' against real-world drives. This is a very hard thing to get perfectly right, but Google's scale/access to data means that in most places they do a good job. While OSM's value can't be overstated, it is worth mentioning that it probably can't meet consumer nav expectations solely on the basis of volunteer mapping. Can OSM data get you from point A to point B? Definitely. But the volunteer mappers who put in data about how many lanes there are, where turn restrictions exist, and tons of other hard-to-map and hard-to-see metadata are few & far between. Most of that work is done by paid mappers working for companies. I'd like to see governments working to get it into OSM, too. But this is a nuance that should be acknowledged if we want more of our navigation experiences to be powered by open data. High-quality nav, to say nothing of ADAS, requires the kind of mapping that, historically, volunteer mappers haven't done for fun. (cont'd in comments) https://lnkd.in/g9YsUe9z
