Onerous permitting processes, whether required at the federal level or undertaken by cities and states delays projects, harms neighborhoods that need the infrastructure help and as this important piece reflects actually harms the environment. Led by the U.S. Global Research Program (USGCRP) and its 14 member agencies, including the U.S. EPA, NCA5 draws on the expertise of nearly 500 authors and 250 contributors from every state, as well as Guam, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. EPA contributed to chapters on air quality, energy, forests, coasts, ecosystems, social systems and justice, economics, as well as regional and response chapters and the overview. This webinar will provide an introduction and overview of the 5th National Climate Assessment. It will walk through the major findings presented in the Overview chapter and provide a demonstration of how to navigate the online report and resources. It will also highlight some of the new features of NCA5, such as Art × Climate, which is the first art gallery to be featured in the NCA. It will guide users to resources including podcasts, recorded webinars, and Spanish translations of the NCA5 chapters. The webinar will also specifically highlight and demo the NCA Interactive Atlas, which provides access to the data compiled for NCA5 and enables users to do custom analysis and mapping.

Large investments are being made by federal agencies and industry in research, development, and demonstration of carbon management, and new facilities and technologies are being planned and built. The Department of Energy requested this study to assess safety, societal considerations, and environmental and health impacts associated with implementation of carbon management at scale. The committee will examine technologies and their potential harms and benefits to human health, the environment, and communities; document and address impacts on burdened communities; examine the implications of carbon management policy on emissions and fossil fuel use; assess regulatory systems; and suggest approaches to reducing harm and increasing benefits of carbon management technologies.   The National Academies is actively seeking experts to serve on the study committee, and we invite you to submit nominations by Monday, November 4, 2024. We are looking for nominees with expertise in the environmental, societal, and technological dimensions of carbon management. As always, we appreciate suggestions of experts who have diverse professional and personal experiences and backgrounds, including women, people of color, and individuals of differing age, location, and professional backgrounds. Building on a previous discussion of project outcomes (see https://lnkd.in/gpN2fFfk), below is a summary of findings from a K12 CTE Stakeholder Assessment. Because this project was designed to inform the “desired state” of a K12 CTE program, these findings are presented as anticipated future conditions. The method used for this assessment was a type of “futures research” to envision intentional change and identify measurable actions to make it happen. Statements of anticipated outcomes are envisioned for a 3 year future, by the year 2027. 1. Promote Equitable Access to CTE Opportunities Ensure all students, regardless of their background or school location, have equal access to career exploration, work-based learning, and post-secondary opportunities. Break down the stigma associated with CTE and promote career pathways as a viable option for all students. 2. Strengthen Connections Between Education and Industry Help K12 teachers and “career and college” counselors be adequately-equipped and prepared with industry knowledge and strong connections with industry partners. These connections should include K12 professionals being actively involved in shaping CTE curriculum and work-based learning (WBL) opportunities that provide real-world experiences, and engaged in continuous dialogue with employers to address the needs of CTE programs and industry. 3. Enhance Student Guidance and Support Establish a well-informed student preparation system that effectively guides students towards suitable career training and employment options, ensuring students are adequately supported for their transition to their post-secondary journey, and providing sufficient opportunities, resources, and support for students in WBL activities. 4. Align Education with Workforce Needs Integrate CTE instructional design with credentials for workforce readiness, linking CTE programs with local employment opportunities, ensuring all students have access to quality WBL opportunities, and are equipped with skills that match job requirements. 5. Expand and Improving CTE Programs Increase the school district’s capacity by adding skills centers locations, streamlining advisory committee activities, strategically integrating with higher education partners, providing CTE-oriented professional development training for K12 professionals, and creating a more comprehensive approach to student success in CTE focused on careers. https://lnkd.in/gGsD2Akm

The Governor’s Office of Land Use and Climate Innovation enlisted CLEE to conduct initial assessments of two climate adaptation and resilience grant programs: the Regional Resilience Planning and Implementation Grant Program and the Adaptation Planning Grant Program. Given the early stage of each program, these evaluations focus on program development, accessibility, and demand and provide a preliminary overview of awarded projects from the first round of each program. Finally, CLEE’s analysis places these programs within the broader context of the State’s climate adaptation and resilience initiatives. 🔗
