On hindsight. I am not a legacy Jaguar customer or even a fan of automobiles. I am unlikely to be a future customer of such brands too. It’s obvious that social media commenters are not privy to discussions on brand strategy but when has that become a barrier for spouting opinions?:) I too did a double take and reacted negatively to the initial teaser and re-brand. Here are some random observations, looking back on the events of last few weeks. 1. It appears that Jaguar has chosen to abandon their current base and build a new audience. It now feels right, having read about the sales decline over the years 2. Time will tell if the the future designs and the value proposition in electric vehicles appeals to the intended new audience. And can build a significant long-term business for the company.  3. Going by what I read, the designs unveiled in Miami are ‘directional’ and not necessarily the final commercial production line. Much like high-fashion where what is displayed on the ramp is not meant for sale - it is just a show of creativity in that domain. 4. ‘Everybody is talking about it’ is still not a valid justification for campaign success. ‘Any publicity is good publicity’ is not true for all brands 5. The company CEO admonishing negative social media commentary (initially) is not a prudent move. It’s the nature of the beast to invite comments from all - one can’t prevent it. The social media team handled the flak earnestly - at least on X.  6. 'Those who can never afford a Jaguar are commenting' is also a futile take. Similar thing happens with iPhone & Apple products right from the 'Mac vs PC' days 7. Does the intended new target audience (younger, going by the teasers) have the money to afford a Jaguar? Am not sure. 8. Should legacy brands breakaway completely from the imagery and brand associations of the past? As with most issues related to marketing & advertising, ‘it depends’ seems to be the right answer. We don’t know the thinking, but probably a ‘half-way house’ option (a little of the past and a little bit futuristic) was seen as sub-optimal. They chose to go for the riskier option of a totally new path. In India HMT had its loyal audience who’ve moved on. Which other legacy brand (in any category) has taken a similar path as Jaguar in terms of breaking away from the past to appeal to a new audience?  #marketing #advertising

CIO Online 'Ways to ward off a doomed stakeholder management strategy' Krishna Prasad, Chief Information Officer at UST, quoted. Story By Pat Brans Fast changing technologies like gen AI present new complexities for stakeholder management. Some of the strategies that worked before are now recipes for disaster, leading CIOs to adopt a more holistic approach. While new technologies have shifted priorities, the need to manage stakeholders has not, says Krishna Prasad, CIO of technology services business UST. And with AI used in almost every part of the business, stakeholders have become much more tech savvy, reducing their dependency on IT departments. But as a result, anybody could then expose a lot of company data inadvertently. To help mitigate these risks, it’s necessary for IT leaders to increase their profile and visibility across the organization, and make sure they educate all potential users. Prasad adds that while many organizations are able to do proofs of concept using AI, most stumble when they try to take it into production. For example, it’s easy to build the capability to answer questions related to HR policies. However, before that can go into production, the AI has to be trained not only to quote policy, but to also respond in a tone that respects sensitivities in different parts of the world. “Questions around sexual harassment, for example, have to be handled in an appropriate manner,” he says. “All of a sudden, you’re going from answering an HR policy that somebody can read and interpret in a certain way, to involving different people in the organization — HR and legal in this case — to help train the model to answer questions appropriately to the context.” Stakeholder management has become both wider and deeper. The CIO and the IT organization need to build strong relationships with a new set of partners — and at all levels. “It’s not just me talking to the CXO,” says Prasad. “It’s also a manager or an analyst on my team being able to actively engage with their counterparts in various other operational teams.” What Prasad expects over the next couple of years is that functional teams are going to become more tech literate. “That’s not because they understand the depths, but because the technology will get easier to use,” he says. Its been 18 years since I started my career. I hit another milestone as well - turning 40! One thing that stands out for me in common - I did not really choose the path I had walked. It happened. There is a quote “To succeed in life, talent alone is not enough, a pinch of luck is also needed”. I call this luck, Grace of God and blessings of my parents and of course I owe my roots to my almamater Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning Life bestowed me with lot of memories. I met wonderful people, from whom I learnt a lot and many more who have taught me a lot as well. The learning in life never stops. I have transitioned in life from having no dreams to having dreams and slowly gravitating towards having practical goals. I started my career with Sri Sathya Sai Media Centre. It was a blessing, be it the memories that have been etched in my heart or friends that I met, who became family. I learnt basics of communication here. I still volunteer whenever there is an opportunity to spread the message of love and service through this organisation. From there, I moved to Srinivasan Services Trust (SST). I witnessed the principles of TQM being truly practised here. This place taught me the value of planning and what one can achieve with frugality and involvement in society. The entrepreneurial journwy was a roller coaster ride at Sai Madhuban Events, which I had created and it was a wonderful journey. I must admit, I was a little young, a little impulsive, a little unplanned - one thing I had in abundance was enthusiasm and I did well with whatever I could till I couldn’t. The next chapter was with Ogilvy as account director at Chief Ministers Office in Andhra Pradesh with Sri Nara Chandrababu Naidu garu. Having the opportunity to watch the visionary from close quarters was phenomenal. Politics have always fascinated me, but this was the closest encounter I had with politics and policy making in the corridors of power where government compulsions and party prerogatives need to be balanced to achieve what one has set out to achieve. A small stint at @AMTZ and another one at EY. Both have been truly amazing. The first one gave me an opportunity to anchor an international event for WHO and the second gave me the golden opportunity to deliver my bit during COVID by coordinating with 23 district collectors of Punjab to establish oxygen plants. Finally, I have been here at ANTS Digital Pvt. Ltd. for three years. This place gave me wonderful opportunities to learn from multiple challenges that we solved for our clients. Integrated communications, with a digital first approach, arriving at brand solutions with a thought through strategy is something I loved and continue to love doing here. Numerous pitches and loads of creative ideas. The loveliest thing at ants is the team I work with, bubbling with enthusiasm and a hunger to do something new and great for our clients. Not my typical post, but today, I couldn’t resist taking a moment to reflect. Today marks an incredible milestone for me — 5 years with Quantiphi. As I reflect on this journey, I’m filled with gratitude and awe at how far we’ve come as a company, as an industry and I, individually. We've skyrocketed, leaping across milestones and making significant strides. The past 5 years have been transformational for me, both personally and professionally. Organizations Thrive on Stories.. Back at Mastek, where I headed Corporate Communications, stories were the foundation of our culture. I saw Mastek as a tribe and never missed an opportunity to tell a story. Our founders, first-generation entrepreneurs from IIM, turned humble beginnings into a global IT powerhouse. One founder, Ashank Desai, rose from modest origins to lead the company, and his journey inspired many. As a communicator, I harnessed these stories to shape our brand and inspire our team. We created an anthem that still resonates with every Mastekeer. In CSR, I used storytelling to engage employees and showcase the impact of our nonprofit partners, boosting voluntary payroll giving from 35% to 90%. During the pandemic, I organized a fundraiser with the theme song “Naya Savera,” raising over seventy-five lakhs for those in need. I also launched 'Project Deep Blue,' where students solved real problems for nonprofits, strengthening our employer brand on campuses. I captured these stories through films and started an alumni network to keep our narrative alive. The phrase “Once a Mastekeer, always a Mastekeer” remains a powerful part of our brand. To effectively use storytelling in your organization: ✔️ Integrate storytelling into brand-building efforts to humanize and differentiate your brand. ✔️ Use stories to deepen employee and client engagement, making values tangible. ✔️ Leverage storytelling in CSR to highlight impact and increase participation. ✔️ Engage potential hires and students with your company’s story to build a strong employer brand. ✔️ Develop an alumni network to maintain long-term brand loyalty and connections. ✔️ Preserve and share organizational stories to ensure cultural continuity.
