As I look back on my career, I'm filled with a deep sense of pride and gratitude for the experiences that have shaped my professional journey. For over a decade, I served as a primary care physician in Trinidad, dedicated to providing compassionate, patient-centred care. My work was fulfilling, but like many International Medical Graduates (IMGs), I faced significant challenges when I moved to Canada 2.5 years ago. The reality is, finding your place as an IMG in Canada is incredibly difficult—whether it’s pursuing a medical license or charting a new career path. For me, the decision to explore an alternative path was not easy, but it was driven by a desire to continue making a meaningful impact on patient care, now from a non-clinical role. That’s when I discovered the Postgraduate Advanced Diploma in Digital Health & Data Analytics (DHDA) at the Michener Institute. The program was brand new, and I signed up for the second cohort, drawn by the opportunity to be at the forefront of healthcare innovation. Over the past two years, I’ve immersed myself in learning how digital health can transform patient outcomes and streamline healthcare delivery. The journey has been long and challenging, but it has also been incredibly rewarding. Today, I’m thrilled to share that I have successfully completed this education milestone. I’ve acquired new skills, broadened my perspectives, and positioned myself to contribute to the healthcare industry in a non-clinical, yet deeply impactful way. Innovation is now at the heart of my career, and I’m excited to see where this new path will take me. I came across this quote and it really resonated with me… 5 years ago Savannah Childers came to me with an idea for our attorney referral sources.. because I fully trusted her and the reputation that she had within CORA , I was happy to embark on this journey. I knew how she worked with others, I knew that others trusted her and valued her vision and experience. I had no doubts it would be successful.! I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again in the future, when I became part of her team, it literally opened up my eyes to how wonderful a manager could be 💕 The Support that she gave was unbelievable. I became part of her team and witnessed such amazing teamwork, even though we all had different regions. We were one working machine, bringing all different parts for our highest accomplishment together. I always joke when I have to refer someone I’m speaking with to a management level , that those decisions are above my pay grade lol.. but regardless of what questions we had or support we needed …Savannah has never made any of us feel that it was “below her pay grade” She has always given us the respect of our positions and valued and appreciated each one of us for what we bring to the table.!! As a young person I always want to receive instant results like just blink and see results But today, I had the privilege of joining a powerful session led by Nyamekye (Yah-MEH-chay) Wilson , CEO of Black Sisters in STEM . It was an eye-opening discussion on how energy, mindset, and generosity shape our lives. One key takeaway was the idea that what you give comes back. Whether it’s your time, effort, or knowledge, the universe rewards those who give freely. It's a reminder that success is tied not only to what we achieve but also to how we lift others along the way. I was also encouraged to understand that life reflects our actions. If I want more positivity or kindness in my life , I must embody those traits myself. Our daily choices influence the reality I experience. Finally, the principle of reaping what you sow was a powerful reminder. The seeds I plant in my career, relationship, and community will determine the harvest we reap in the future. Okoye was a 35-year-old professional who wanted to save for his retirement, while also protecting his family's financial future. He decided to purchase an IUL policy to help him achieve these goals. When Okoye first signed up for the IUL policy, he allocated a portion of his monthly premium payments to be invested in an index tied to the S&P 500. The policy had a guaranteed minimum crediting rate of 2% per year. In the first few years, the S&P 500 index saw strong growth, gaining around 10% per year. Thanks to the IUL policy's participation rate, Okoye's cash value grew by around 8% annually during this period, outpacing the 2% guaranteed minimum. Then, a few years later, the stock market experienced a downturn, and the S&P 500 index lost 15% of its value. The combination of growth potential and downside protection helped Okoye steadily build up his retirement savings and provide financial security for his family. So in Okoye's case, the IUL policy did not offer a "no loss" situation, but it did successfully balance the upside potential and downside protection, aligning with the typical features of an index universal life insurance product. What’s on my mind? I decided to take an unconventional route for my one word mantra this year. My word is F.A.B.S! Favor + Abundance + Breakthrough= Sovereignty FAVOR This year I expect to experience blessings and grace from God that are given not because of merit but because of God’s sovereign will for my life. ABUNDANCE This year abundance is my birthright, and I am ready to receive it. I will not chase it. When I align my thoughts, my words, and my actions with the truth of who I am—a divine creation, fully capable and deserving of all good things—abundance flows to me effortlessly. Abundance is more than material wealth. It’s joy, love, peace, and purpose; it is the direct reflection of my preparation to live abundantly. BREAKTHROUGH This year will be one of mental, emotional and spiritual breakthroughs, pivotal moments or achievements that shift the status quo, enabling significant progress or change in my life. SOVEREIGNTY This year, I belong to myself, not to everyone around me. I am rooted in my own worth, value & dignity. I see me. I love me. Importantly, I realize that sovereignty won’t be given to me in this patriarchal culture; I must claim it for myself. I choose to center myself. I choose to embrace a new identity—one where I am POWERFUL, AUTHENTIC, WILD & FREE. Free to not be bound by the expectations of others. Free to Stop over-giving. Free to Stop over-compromising. Free to Stop over-performing. Free to Stop self-abandoning. I choose to come home to myself. I will let myself rest. I will give myself permission to simplify and create a life that works for me. I’m going to fill my well and feel no guilt about doing the things I must do to keep it full. I will let things fall. If no one picks them up, then maybe they don’t need to get done. If you’ve been watching the Paris Olympics, then you’ve likely seen the controversy behind this photo. Everyone thought Kishane Thompson from Jamaica won the 100 meter finals until they viewed the photo finish which showed that Noah Lyles from the US had leaned in at the finish line and won the race. Although Jamaica appeared to be faster, this scenario reminded me that the advice and guidance you receive in life is crucial to your success. You see, Noah’s coaches advised him of a very important rule which earned him the gold medal: Your torso is the only body part that matters at the finish line. By leaning his torso in at the finish line, Noah received a faster time and the ultimate victory in the race. Similarly, as a criminal defense and injury attorney, the advice and guidance we give to our clients is just as crucial. When you’re dealing with an important and life-changing legal issue, you don’t want to just settle for the first Attorney that pops up online. You should desire the best for your unique situation and circumstances. You see, Noah Lyles is a sprinter. He probably didn’t hire a long distance running coach to guide him, but a coach who is specialized in teaching sprinters how to succeed in the race. And in your race of life, you’re going to need a lawyer at least once in your lifetime; When you do, make it count. The goal is to win and come out on top. Going to the hair salon is non-negotiable! More than 5 years ago, I had recently returned to work after having a baby, and I decided to have my locs cut off into a teeny weeny afro (TWA). In my mind, hair appointments were a hassle and I wanted to do my own hair.  I was bemoaning having to pump breast milk in my car before walking in, finding a place to keep the milk cool, and then staying up late working on my laptop to make up for the time I spent in the salon. My AAA framework allowed me to be AWARE that I had the haircut because I felt like I shouldn’t allow myself that time, I thought I was wrong or breaking some rule for going to get my hair done when I was ‘behind’ on my research. That AWARENESS allowed me to shift my ATTITUDE so now I believe my worth is not tied to what I accomplished in research. And through that my APPROACH is different: Now, I no longer have guilt about taking time to go to the salon. I enjoy the experience, not feeling burdened by what I have to do when it’s over. I look forward to the next appointment. I am empowered to make my work schedule fit my life and find my career is not suffering from those decisions. I am no special unicorn, this AAA framework works with all my clients, changing their limiting beliefs to build new habits. What is life’s purpose? As I’m boarding the plane to go to Haiti I am nothing but grateful to be involved in such activities In 2016, as I were sitting in my office at my job.
