“Steve has the experience to provide a tremendous amount of value to any role he sets his eyes on. However, more importantly Steve's calm and composed demeanor, combined with his genuine kindness and proactive approach, make him an ideal fit on any team. I had the pleasure of working with Steve as an independent contractor at HMH. In his first few weeks, his software engineering solutions single-handedly saved our product over $600k on our READ180 budget. He also stepped in and served as project manager on a few of our more complex print-to-digital migration projects. It was clear to all developers, vendors, and stakeholders that we had a major-league player among us. In addition to his engineering and project management prowess, Steve has also kindly served as an Agile coach to me this past year. Working on a non-mainstream product means you have to wear many hats. Steve was able to guide me through some very nuanced dilemmas presented to our team. His guidance was one of the main reasons why our READ 180 team stood out tremendously from the rest of our department. We had the most refined processes and pushed out some of the greatest in value products to our customers. My professional growth has been greatly enhanced due to his guidance, especially in my ability to better identify and solve problems on a team and navigate the nuances of people management through kind leadership. I cannot recommend him highly enough.”

These communities ranged in size from 30 all the way up to 1200 active members. These experiences helped me learn a wide variety of organizational leadership, communication, and relationship management skills, in addition to practice in software development and product management. Some notable achievements include:
- Building and maintaining a successful community through the entire lifecycle over a 10-year period (inception, growth (1200 members, mentions in media/publications, influence over larger gaming communities), to eventual sunset.
- Implementing and driving adoption of text, voice chat, and other community engagement platforms from IRC in the 1990s to Discord in 2014. This included building out the infrastructure and engineering integrations between platforms (ex. SSO for text chat, voice chat, admin interfaces and other platforms).
- Organizing cross-community events, including one that successfully engaged over 5,000 people, using various community engagement and communication platforms
- Developed and released several popular game modifications for Star Wars: TIE Fighter, Star Trek: Armada, Star Trek: Armada 2, and Freelancer. Combined, these modifications saw over 500k downloads. and some merited articles in gaming publications at the time (ex. PC Gamer).
I stepped away from all this in late 2021 given other obligations on my time.
