Introducing the Don Bosco Trade (High School) Foundation to bring and return a Don Bosco trade program and Catholic faith-based secondary educational institution to the South Shore of Boston. The projected plan for the high school is to target a soft opening for the 2026-2027 school year. Additional information on how individuals and corporate partners can assist and support will be provided in the coming month.

In alignment with the Lehigh University strategic plan, the university’s Office of International Affairs has presented its four strategic initiatives, which will help guide OIA in its mission to make the Lehigh community international, expand the university’s footprint abroad, and provide high-quality international education experiences for Lehigh students and scholars. These initiatives were developed in close alignment with Lehigh’s university-wide strategic plan, Inspiring the Future Makers, which offers a vision for how the university can broaden its global perspective and impact. “Inspiring the Future Makers specifically challenges us to collaborate to find solutions that drive societal change and advance experiential learning and real-world application,” said Cheryl Matherly, Vice President and Vice Provost for International Affairs at Lehigh. “These strategic initiatives will guide us in continuing to achieve that vision.” Each of the four strategic initiatives includes specific, actionable components that will help guide OIA in preparing Lehigh students and other stakeholders to engage the world, address global challenges, and lives of meaning. Rhodes Center hosts “The Political Economy of Finance Summer School” 🎓📊 Organized by Mark Blyth & Benjamin Braun, the program trained young political economists and connected them with leading scholars, drawing participants from 25 institutions across 16 countries. 🌍 Rhodes Center Postdoctoral Research Associate Daniel Driscoll, a rising scholar in finance who attended the program, emphasized the "huge demand" for such a program, stating, "This is like a Disneyland for a rising political economist. 🌟 Celebrating a Major Milestone in Clean Energy Collaboration! 🌟 Representatives from ten states—Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, and Vermont—have come together to coordinate transmission grid expansion efforts with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). On July 9, 2024, these states signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to formalize their collaboration, accelerating the siting and permitting of regional and interregional transmission facilities, including both onshore and offshore options. This partnership is essential for the Eastern Seaboard to meet clean energy goals cost-effectively. The MOU highlights: ✅ Shared transmission priorities for substantial benefits. ✅ Federal support for offshore wind and clean energy objectives. ✅ Common technical standards to reduce costs and ensure compatibility. The New Jersey State Policy Lab provides economic forecasts for NJ through Rutgers Economic Advisory Service (R/ECON), led by Will Irving. Today, we are releasing the Summer 2024 #EconomicForecast, linked below. #GDPgrowth in #NJ is projected to slow to 1.4% in 2024, following stronger than expected GDP growth in 2023. #HighInterestRates have not yet tempered climbing prices for new and existing #homes. As of Q4 '23, sales of existing homes are down vs. '22.   NJ's elevated #UnemploymentRate is expected to persist as employment growth slows. NJ's population rebounded in 2023 after three years of decline and is projected to continue slow growth. On May Day, Rutgers LEARN released it's latest issue of the bi-annual NJ State of Labor Report. Between 2021-2023, NJ's union density remained around 16%, about 6% higher than the national average. Despite a small decline in public sector density, private sector unionization increased by 1% since the previous report. In the latest issue of The Democracy Journal, Future Caucus President & CEO Layla Zaidane writes about the state of young people in politics – the hopes, the challenges, the solutions – providing analysis and data on the Gen Z and millennial generations and their relationship with leadership and public service. With only 12% of Congress and only 25% of state legislators being Gen Z or millennials, recruitment is only part of the problem. Layla argues, “If we want to help more talented, public service-oriented young people see themselves as legislators, then we need to focus on retention of the Gen Zers and millennials in state and local office today.” Throughout the article, Layla breaks down the systemic barriers keeping young people from running for public office and forcing early retirement while offering solutions and a call to action to support our young elected leaders. 🎤Story time: While in grad school at Tufts University in their Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice Leadership program, my last semester, I took a class on Gender Theory at The Fletcher School at Tufts University with Professor Kimberly Theidon. For my final project I created a campaigned titled “Mics for the Missing.” Not only did I get an A, but Professor Theidon encouraged me to transform my project into a real campaign. So I did! I called up my accountability buddy and classmate Mary-Alexandra Molina, and we organized our first event on February 3, 2023, turning a grassroots initiative into a movement and organization. Just 14 months later, we’re co-organizing with some of the highest-ranking officials in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and we’re not stopping here. We have much more to come. 🎤We amplify the missing and advocate for change. Too often missing Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC) are overlooked. In 2022, U.S. Congress named this a “silent epidemic,” and we are breaking the silence with community action. We’re just getting started. Thank you to all the esteemed officials who co-organized the Legislative Briefing on Missing Black Women and Girls with us and all who supported us in person and online. 🎤 We believe every missing person should receive the resources and attention they deserve. Because that is not the case, we amplify our voices for the visibility of missing Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC).
