What do you do if your career takes a hit and you need to regain motivation and positivity?
For me, it has always been to control what I can control. I might not have been able to control the circumstances that led to my setback but I can control how I respond. It is important to realize that the voices in your head are there to help you survive, not thrive (think caveman days). You control the narrative (read Positive Intelligence). The most important part of taking control is by taking action. Conversations with people you trust are important, you genuinely need to understand your situation. But at the end of the day, doing is the only thing that can lead to better outcomes. All of this is easier said than done. Having a professional to help you could be critical. Just remember that your response is under your control.

You're trying to build strong relationships with colleagues. What's the biggest mistake you could make?
You're not going to love everyone you work with but the turning point for me was when I realized that my problem with someone was my problem. People are who they are and it would serve us well to get to know them. Learn their story, understand the circumstances that made them who they are, you might even start to like them. At minimum, you will accept them and hopefully begin to appreciate the value they add to the organization. Remember, just like you they were hired for a reason, let's start to see what others see.

What are the top 3 questions to ask about company culture during an interview?
For me it is about the answers. The questions proffered here are all excellent, I don't have any new suggestions. But listen to the answer and how that resonates with you. In a sales environment the answer is often "we're a work hard, play hard type of environment". I interpret this as a bit immature, maybe a little rough and tumble and possibly not terribly supportive. That may be great for you, maybe your looking for a no holds barred kind of place where you can really take it by storm. But for me I want to hear words that suggest support, nurturing, understanding and above all, communication. It's business, I get it, but as long as our expectations are aligned then I'm ready to take the leap of faith.

How do you address candidate concerns in a recruiting interview?
If you are an agency recriuter it can be more difficult. You may not have all of the answers because you don't have direct access to the hiring manager or even the company recruiter. With that many degrees of seperation it can be difficult to give real answers. But don't make it up. Share what you know (the job description, what you've learned so far, history with the client). Remind them that this is what the interview is for, so they can ask direct questions and find out for themselves. Many candidates are leery of agency recruiters and for good reason. Be as open and honest as you can and accept that your answer sometimes may be, 'I don't know, but that is an excellent question to ask when yhou meet them.'
