Your client is frustrated with slow progress. How can you bridge the communication gaps within your team?
A former manager was an expert in 6-Sigma and we used that approach in the instructional design work that we did. I learned the value of making sure you had a well-documented process so you could pinpoint breakdowns and bottlenecks. Being able to show clients where things are in the process and having an open dialogue about what's happening, what needs to happen and when it's going to happen is a way to build trust and create a sense of stability. It can also help to identify and celebrate the progress that has been made.

Here's how you can effectively handle difficult clients in content marketing using assertiveness.
Sometimes clients won't understand how things work. The idea they have may not be based on how things really work. We recently had a client that came to us looking to get booked on 100 podcasts within 4 months. Not only would that be unrealistic, it would also be ineffective: there wouldn't be sufficient time to promote each podcast (which is an expectation as a guest.) As the expert in providing this service, it was our responsibility to set the right expectation to keep from having to "manage" disappointment and frustration further down the road.

What do Post Malone and Instructional Designers have in common? Probably more than you think. 1. We're chameleons of our craft. Post Malone has collaborated with: 🎶 Ozzy Osborne 🎶 SZA 🎶 Kanye West 🎶 Justin Bieber 🎶 Taylor Swift 🎶 Morgan Wallen How does he do it? ✅ He's likely open-minded. ✅ He probably listens. ✅ He has the ability to collaborate with people of all different backgrounds - who no doubt have strong ideas and opinions. Sounding familiar? It should. 2. We're likely 'always tired.' If you've never taken an up close and personal look at Post Malone's face. Do a google image search. You'll empathize. 3. Our goals align. The Post Malone song of the summer? It's a country song. "I Had Some Help" featuring Morgan Wallen. Yeah, if you've heard it, it's now playing on repeat in your head. You're welcome. That earworm of a song is exactly what Instructional Designers should be aiming for. ✅ Knowledge that just.won't.go.away. ✅ Content that plays on repeat in the brain. As Instructional Designers, we all dread answering the "What do you do" question. At least I do... So from now on, here's a suggested stock answer: "Oh, I’m basically the Post Malone of the office. I stop, collaborate, and listen to turn complex ideas into unforgettable training bangers. That convoluted info that seems out of reach?
