It's devastating to see the damage caused by the California wildfires. T-Mobile is doing everything we can to help affected communities and first responders stay connected. Here are a few updates:  🔘 T-Mobile and Starlink opened up our T-Mobile Starlink Direct-to-Cellular service in impacted areas, delivering wireless emergency alerts, SMS, and enabling 911 texting, even without commercial power.  🔘 We’ve restored over half of the sites affected by power loss and are working to support the rest with portable generators.  🔘 We are collaborating with federal, state, and local officials to ensure critical connectivity, including deploying Wi-Fi routers at key locations.  Additional details on community support can be found here: https://lnkd.in/gnpXud6B

Some big announcements this week related to the use of #AI in Telco Mobile Networks. Timing couldn't be better as Spectrum Effect was just this week awarded the patent for the use of AI and Machine Learning Models for classifying interference types in Mobile Operator RAN networks. I have strong conviction on AI's ability to drive more efficient and effective operations of mobility networks and ultimately better outcomes for consumers of the services that mobile networks enable. Being there yesterday for the CPUC’s grant approval was inspiring. Out of the $157 million awarded statewide, Vallejo’s $3.8 million allocation is more than broadband—it's about families in these project areas, small businesses along the way, and the transformative potential of connectivity for Mare Island. Seeing this collaboration between the City of Vallejo, our Smart Fiber Networks team, and Cal Consulting, I felt immense pride. Each project brings real impact, closing the digital divide and setting Vallejo up as a model for accessible connectivity. This is a major announcement for T-Mobile, as it indicates its progressing to become the primary all-mode #communications supplier for both #consumers and #business users. Adding the Lumos Fiber assets for #Fiber #broadband connectivity enables T-Mobile and especially T-Mobile For Business to become a bundled provider of #mobile, #FWA over #5G, and #fiber #internet and #communications services. And while the acquired fiber assets are currently regional and in a relatively limited area, there is no doubt T-Mobile plans to invest to greatly expand the fiber infrastructure. Given T-Mobile's aggressive pricing and marketing, this a warning to Verizon and AT&T that T-Mobile is coming for their customers. #Uncarrier

I'm with the Broadband Forum community in San Diego this week, marvelling not only at the progress that's been made since we last got together with our members, contributors and staff - but also the significant achievements over the past three decades. This week, Broadband Forum is celebrating 30 years of making broadband a reality. During the organisation's lifetime, the milestones we've achieved have mirrored the incredible development of broadband from a dial-up alternative to multi-gigabit connectivity. Continuous themes have ensured success, from collaboration between our members and the wider industry, to adoption of an open-source approach. Also crucial has been evolving with the pace of broadband progress, from delivering specifications for a copper-based physical layer to the fiber broadband world we live in today with billions of connected devices being supported by our connected user and home experience standards (TR-069 and #USP). This is all down to our dedicated membership. Over the 30 years they have come together and consistently delivered on industry standards, interoperability, best practices, and certification programs for the broadband that we witness today and strive for tomorrow. As we take stock of the progress we must remember that the work is not done. With the number of connected users soon to pass 1.5 billion(!), the expectations have gone beyond fast speeds and into new realms that we must be prepared for as an industry. I would like to thank all those companies and individuals, past and present, that have helped us fashion today’s broadband. The future of wireless services of all types is likely to involve more spectrum-sharing and other more sophisticated approaches to #spectrum assignment and management. This applies to #5G, #6G, #WiFi, #satellite, audiovisual and various classes of aviation and martime networks, as well as government and defence usage. Sharing will occur based on multiple dimensions - location, duration, directionality, power and obviously frequency. That, in turn, will require a range of key enablers, including technological components such as spectrum databases, sensing systems, better transceivers, mapping tools, cross-technology signalling and much more. There will also need to be streamlined regulatory processes, spectrum marketplaces, and a whole variety of use-cases for AI + spectrum. There will also be a need for more international cooperation and (hopefully) eventual harmonisation. The evolution of spectrum-sharing is a central theme for me at the moment, and something that regularly crops up in my discussions with regulators, operators, vendors and investors.
