What are the different types of training to improve employee performance?
Bottom line with onboarding...it is the foundation for how successful a person becomes. It takes an all-in mentality between HR, Onboarding Teams, Leadership, and the Team the person will eventually land on. The better aligned the organization is, the better the onboarding experience. Also...you should ALWAYS make the new person feel welcomed on their first day because it will ALWAYS be remembered. Balloons, signs, clean desks/workstation (nobody wants to see the remnants of employees past), lunch if you can do it. All of it is critical and will not be forgotten.

What are the different types of training to improve employee performance?
Classroom training has changed so much in the last decade. You have to be engaging and bring content that challenges them to think for themselves vs. just giving those in the class the answer. Working together to solve real world/work problems helps and keeps them on their toes. My preference is a mix of OTJ and Classroom for onboarding. One additional viewpoint: You have to work them hard when you are the classroom setting. Keep it fast paced and a variety of platforms. Your trainers have to set the pace. I have always believed that if you train at only 60 mph, you will not be ready for the real game if it goes at 100 mph. Pour on the knowledge and work in training, so the real thing will slow down some when that time comes.

What are the different types of training to improve employee performance?
This the key to our success on our team. We have a very healthy mix of veterans and new associates and we are constantly promoting people into the greater organization due to the tendency of our newer associates coming directly out of college. To be successful, you must have systems in place that keep the guardrails around success and failure tight. Allow them to learn, but keeping them "in-bounds". Also...we look for low risk areas where they can cut their teeth and be brought up to speed on the job, but not in the deep end.

I was head coach of a baseball team that took kids from coach pitch through their 15 year old season. Many of the kids were along for the entire ride. Countless hours practicing, playing and teaching life lessons along the way was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. Many of the boys I coached are now entering the workforce and are connecting with me on LinkedIn. It is extremely rewarding to know I was a mentor for them along their journey.
