Growing up in the Rogue Valley, I remember one thing about Intel was their products were always the more budget appropriate, reasonable, reliable, and always readily available products within the valley. I I wasn't always into big and fancy, just wanted something that worked effectively that I did not have to wait for. If I wanted a fancy computer or something that ran better game specs, then I needed to order it, or even find it at a larger retail store at a very unreasonable price. I will say, I did get into gaming, but I still own the 2009 HP Slimline with my Intel Processor inside. In 2016, I upgraded the power supply, cooling unit, and storage. I can still power on this computer and run League of Legends and World of Warcraft on it very well. I know that Intel is going through changes right now, but this does not make me want to work here any less. Change in the semiconductor industry is forever, as we try to fluctuate with the ever-changing times around us. I am excited to see where things go for Intel, and I am even more excited to be able to be helping and supporting our teams that make these reasonable, amazing, diverse products. :) #IntelFoundry

A perfect representation of good business sense and strategy. I often shake my head in disagreement when I encounter hawker stalls not sharing their tables or forcing people to order just "theirs", making things unpleasant for the customer. I've seen people's envy towards others' achievements. Not wishing well or being happy for others. Thus, limiting the knowledge for success and even collaboration. You ever wondered why in society we have specific areas that are filled with shops of similar business nature, but being able to prosper well together? This is because they understand the term called Nash Equilibrium, where a progressive environment is formulated with enough competition and traffic, allowing for both parties to retrieve maximum profit. Leveraging analog IP for protection from side-channel attacks - Chris Morrison, Director of Product Marketing, Agile Analog Over the last decade there has been a significant rise in the frequency and severity of side-channel attacks (SCAs). This Agile Analog blog post outlines some examples of applications that could be impacted by voltage side-channel attacks and explains how agileVGLITCH, our voltage glitch detection solution, can help offer protection. Voltage side-channel attacks Voltage side-channel attacks involve unscrupulous individuals attempting to break into electronic systems by using glitching techniques. A successful SCA can expose sensitive data and place the SoC (System on Chip) at risk. The Agile Analog team has developed a voltage glitch detector IP (agileVGLITCH) that can be integrated into a SoC design to determine when such an attack is occurring and to enable counter-measures. This customizable IP block, along with Agile Analog's temperature glitch detector IP (agileTGLITCH) and clock attack monitor IP (agileCAM) work together to check vital parameters like voltage, temperature, and clock. Changes, such as supply voltage fluctuations or power supply manipulation, might signal an attack on the chip. Accountability and Success Accountability was one of the Altera Values studied and discussed at this 2013 Altera Engineering workshop. Accountability was part of the Altera culture, embraced by all from interns to our CEO, and essential to our technical and financial competitiveness. The six proposed statements give insight into our thinking. We voted (see the black dots) and chose #1 as the best accountability statement. You can see that #2, the statement about transparency, was a close 2nd which highlights that integrity is essential to accountability. Executives, if you want an organization with the prime focus on personal advancement, then go ahead and model stage presence and rapport with senior VPs. But if you instead want an organization that produces great results, then exercise accountability.

Wrapping up #DAC61, I am curious about the decision to rebrand the event as "DAC, The Chips to Systems Conference," instead of the traditional "Design Automation Conference." This is not just a simple change of words — consider the keynote speakers. Last year, they were all #EDA luminaries:  Mike Ellow (recently appointed CEO of Siemens EDA), Lip-Bu Tan (former Cadence CEO), Alberto Sangiovanni-Vincentelli (founder of both Cadence and Synopsys) and Walden C. ( Wally ) Rhines - long time CEO of Mentor Graphics. In contrast, this year, the keynote speakers were Jim Keller (Tenstorrent), Gary Patton (Intel) and Alan Lee (ADI) - all "Chip to Systems" executives. Is this a coincidence? Does it reflect EDA companies taking a lesser role at DAC? Siemens EDA (Siemens Digital Industries Software) was a notable exception as a Diamond sponsor, investing in a sizable booth and team, and hosting guests for a Giants' game at Oracle Park. (The famous Denali party is long gone...) Or is it because part of Design Automation is increasingly being done within "Chips to Systems" companies? Should Lattice Semiconductor buy Altera? With no product portfolio overlap, both companies can strengthen each other. Intel needs a cash injection, selling Altera would be a great way to do that quickly. For Lattice, this would leap frog them into the next tier. Combined revenue would be ~$2.2B, still smaller than AMD's Xilinx hence SEC should not have an issue with it. Before anyone says a smaller company buying a larger one, remember Avago's acquisition of Broadcom? This marriage would be great for the employees, customers, industry, and both companies.
