Now that COP has almost wrapped up, I’ve been reflecting on the experience and wanted to share some thoughts while the energy of the event is still fresh. The recent discussions and events surrounding sustainability weren’t about competition; they were about meaningful dialogue within society. You could see, each local industry and/or organization starts from a unique place, but what mattered is how they engage in the conversation to move forward together. Azerbaijan is part of this international dialogue, and at forums like COP, it’s clear that our country is not just a participant: we are a party with full responsibilities, authority, and maturity. Looking at the corporate sector, it's inspiring to see how many organizations, particularly in banking and top tier companies, have already begun their green initiatives. Sometimes, they don’t even realize it: their actions stem from good intentions. COP and the related changes in regulations and legislation have simply provided the framework to give these efforts direction. A truly interesting part of COP was the dialogue between international experts and local intellectuals. When these conversations are thoughtfully organized, they have the power to provoke thought, raise awareness, and drive change. The key to this? Enthusiasm on the local front, paired with expertise on the international side. As a marketing and communication team, we embraced the challenge of stepping outside our routine. We sought to bring our statements to life and connect seemingly unrelated dots across a wide range of topics. With the diversity of panels and discussions at COP, we were able to offer the kind of support and guidance we always strive to provide to our clients. We are more than just a bank, we aim to be their trusted guide in navigating their industry, excelling together along the way. On a personal note, four years ago, I made the decision to return to Baku after 17 years abroad. Since then, I’ve never looked back. Witnessing Azerbaijan today as it steps confidently into the sustainable era, I am more certain than ever that this is the right time to be here, contributing to the growth and transformation of our country. There’s no place I’d rather be.

Most credit unions and community banks are either entering or in budget season. Now that I think about it...when are you ever NOT in budget season? The best marketers don’t shy away from budget talks. They embrace them. When thinking about marketing budgets, I’m reminded of something marketing expert Constance Anderson said years ago. “Sell your marketing budget all year long by continually showing the positive returns your efforts are generating. Remember, most CEOs have a strong accounting background. They are most impressed when your efforts have a positive impact on the bottom line.” We routinely remind our clients that marketing is an investment and not an expense. And with every investment you make, you want a positive return. John Wanamaker famously said, “I know half my advertising dollars are wasted. I just don’t know which half.” One way to better understand if you are maximizing your marketing dollars is to conduct a marketing assessment. Part of a thorough marketing review includes an expense analysis. Another way to maximize your marketing investment is to outsource some tasks. So much (strategy, copywriting, design, data, digital, etc.) is involved in marketing today that it’s almost impossible for one (or even two) people to have all those necessary skills. Rather than have a bloated marketing department, it may be more efficient to partner with a company that provides a high level of expertise in those key areas.
