Stephen Dobson, Asim Patel , Linda Vernon how do we get all our SQL Developers and BI analysts to learn some of the most modern paradigms in data engineering? Are we paying enough attention to how we build, document, orchestrate and version control data pipelines within the core NHS BI day-to-day work? We urgently need a mandatory, appraisal-linked, CPD programme in digital to strengthen the skills foundations on which we are pinning the entire region's intelligence hopes on. My team are almost certainly moving to SQLMesh for the next phase of regional OMOP transformation work. We have a good idea of what we can do with dbt and understand what its limitations are even if we have not done everything that it is probably capable of doing. We have wrangled it to get our OMOP refresh frequency down to every day. One of a few centres in the world to have achieved this, I am told. But, as we straddle on-prem and cloud with different SQL dialects, traditional ops vs DataOps, single env Vs dev/test/prod, etc. , we need to rapidly adapt with modern tools to continue delivering value.
