Roderick "Rod" Shirley, 82, is a husband, father and grandfather from Tampa, Florida. In September 2023, Rod started to experience pain and swelling in his right leg. After the swelling continued to get worse in his leg, he decided to go to an imaging center where they discovered a severe blood clot. Rod was admitted at Advent Health Tampa for a thrombectomy but during the procedure he coded multiple times due to a pulmonary embolism. Soon after, Dr. Oliver Abela discovered Rod was in right heart failure and Dr. Abela implanted the Impella RP Flex to allow his heart to rest and recover. After three days of support, the Impella was weaned and removed and he was able to return home. We were lucky enough to have Rod with us recently for our #Impella25 celebrations!

Check out why BreastScreen Aotearoa’s clinical lead, Dr Adam Stewart, believes early detection and raising the age for free mammograms to 74 are so important. We agree! So please get your mammograms when eligible, get to know the normal look and feel of your breasts, and head to the doctor if you notice any changes. We will let you know what is happening with the age extension when we know more. https://ow.ly/HxTn50RoHyl

Over the past several months, we have worked to create a trademark that encapsulates who we are, what our mission is, and whom we serve. Through these efforts, one phrase consistently rose to the top; one that embodied Karoo Health succinctly and simply. We are “America’s Cardiac Solution”. We wanted our trademark to be aspirational. As Americans, we are almost all affected, and will continue to be affected, by cardiac disease at an alarming rate, whether directly, or through loved ones. True to our mission, we will serve you, the American people, affected by this terrible ailment. Through our unique model of care, ground breaking technology, proven clinical results, and innovative partnerships we will deliver a cardiac solution that meets you where you are. When you seek cardiovascular care, whether for yourself or your loved ones, think of Karoo Health, “America’s Cardiac Solution”.

🔊 Shoutout to our #BloodyAmazingKidneys! They are silent superheroes, quietly filtering our blood and keeping our organs working. However, it's important to know that we can lose kidney function without realising, and that’s a problem we should ALL be aware of. Together, we can ensure #KidneysMatter and #KidneyAwareness reaches all. Find out more about our latest campaign here: https://lnkd.in/e9bW26Hp #CKD #BloodyAmazing #KidneyDisease

National Down Syndrome Awareness Month is an intentional time to celebrate individuals with Down syndrome and leverage your spheres of influence to spread awareness. Shauna Amick, M.Ed., our Director of Direct Response and Radio Marketing, is doing just that! Her daughter Sarah has Down syndrome and recently Shauna shared helpful insights on how to include individuals with Down syndrome in our communities. 🌟 Be a Voice: Share messages about National Down Syndrome Awareness Month on your social media. Ensure that individuals with Down syndrome are included in your churches, clubs, and social groups. 🤝 Be a Friend: Reach out to children and adults with Down syndrome in your neighborhood, at the store, or in your church. 🌼 Be an Example: As the seasons change, be intentional about advocating for the full inclusion of all individuals. Consider volunteering as a buddy with a local school or organization. These simple actions can uplift those with Down syndrome and their families, making a positive impact not just in October, but throughout the entire year. Read more from Shauna below! #DownSyndromeAwarenessMonth #DownSyndrome #Awareness #Inclusion
As we round out National Down Syndrome Awareness Month, I'm delighted that The Acorn has included Sarah's story in their online and print publications. Change is in the air. I can feel it! https://lnkd.in/gdTVR4ZN joniandfriends.org

Today is the day! A day 100 years in the making. A day filled with everything we have put into it: hard work, sweat, tears, determination, passion and heart. It is a day of joy. A day to celebrate science and research, volunteers and survivors. A day to celebrate all people everywhere whose lives we improve. A day to celebrate every member of the American Heart Association family. Today marks 100 years since the founding of the American Heart Association on June 10, 1924. CPR. Pacemakers. Heart transplants. Stents. Clot-busting drugs. Congenital heart defect repairs. Treatment. Prevention. Guidelines. Precision Medicine. Our organization has made all of them possible, and in doing so, we’ve cut cardiovascular mortality in half. Our Second Century will be a time of incredible breakthroughs, many unimaginable today, guided by our vision of “advancing health and hope for everyone, everywhere.” And we can’t wait to see where we’ll go and who we’ll be, 100 years from now.
