Let's talk about the broken rung. The broken rung is the inability of women to advance even in the earliest stages of a career, meaning that issues arise far before they climb the ladder and hit the glass ceiling. The broken rung holds women back from manager-level positions, making career-building very different from the start. We can address this by mentoring newer female team members to encourage and support their paths upward, as well as equitably hiring women in management positions that offer upward mobility. It starts with us, as leaders, and as professionals. We should all envision a more fair world and equality is the norm -- and that means addressing root problems and taking action. Thrilled to have been part of an inspiring panel discussion on Women in L&D Leadership yesterday! It was an honor to share the stage Dr. Haley R. Harbaugh, SHRM-SCP and Janine Ting Jansen! We dove deep into crucial topics that affect all of us: 📊 Pay equity: Addressing the gaps and strategies for change 💼 Negotiation: Empowering ourselves to ask for what we deserve 🤝 Allyship: How we can support each other and amplify the voices of women 🚀 Sponsorship: The power of advocating for women in the workplace 🙋🏽♀️ Women of Color: How the intersectionality of race and gender, compound challenges and are statistically underrepresented at leadership levels. What struck me most was the openness and vulnerability in our conversations. We shared personal experiences, challenges we've faced, and strategies that have helped us succeed. It's clear that when we come together and lift each other up, we all rise. 💁🏽♀️💁🏻♀️💁🏿♀️💁🏼♀️💁🏾♀️ To all the women in L&D and beyond: Let's keep these conversations going. Reach out to your colleagues, offer support, and don't be afraid to ask for help when you need it. Together, we can create a more equitable and empowering environment for all. A huge thank you to Corporate Learning Network for hosting this event and to my fellow panelists Dr. Haley R. Harbaugh, SHRM-SCP and @Janine Ting Jansen for their wisdom and insights. Here's to more women in leadership roles and to a future where these discussions are no longer necessary! 🎉 #WomenInLeadership #LearningAndDevelopment #PayEquity #WomenEmpowerment #ProfessionalDevelopment

Does gender equality make a difference? Four Australian Industries Making Progress. In Australia, certain industries are accelerating the representation of women in leadership, reaping significant benefits in profitability, innovation, and workplace culture. Here’s a look at four sectors making notable strides, the initiatives they’re implementing, and why they’re seeing results: 1. Real Estate and Property Services The real estate sector is one of the leaders in promoting women into senior roles, with growth rates of over 15% in recent years. Companies like Mirvac have introduced gender-balanced hiring practices and mentoring programs aimed specifically at women, which has contributed to improved organisational agility and stronger financial performance. (Ref: McKinsey & Company) 2. Education and Healthcare Women have historically held many roles in healthcare and education, but recent efforts are ensuring they are also moving into senior management and executive positions. With nearly 50% of top roles filled by women, these sectors are leveraging diverse leadership to create more patient- and student-focused environments. This has led to measurable improvements in both service delivery and operational efficiency. (Ref: WGEA) 3. ASX-listed Companies Top Australian companies are setting the pace, with over 40% of ASX 20 and ASX 50 board seats now occupied by women. Companies like Telstra and NAB have committed to transparency and accountability, setting targets that have pushed them toward achieving gender parity. These strategies have enhanced board performance, leading to better strategic oversight and long-term value creation. (Ref: AICD) 4. Government and Public Administration The public sector in Australia has taken significant steps, with initiatives aimed at increasing women’s representation in senior roles. Targeted gender strategies and flexible work policies have contributed to a 20% growth rate in women in executive roles over the past three years. (Ref: McKinsey & Company) The Impact: Research shows that companies with gender-diverse leadership teams have a better understanding of consumer needs, improved decision-making, and greater profitability. Australian firms that have made gender equity a priority are reaping the rewards, with some seeing an annual market value increase of $52 million to $70 million by simply having more women in key leadership roles. For Australian organisations looking to boost performance and lead in a competitive market, building gender-diverse leadership teams isn’t just a “nice-to-have”—it’s a strategic imperative. https://lnkd.in/gMcT2Js4 #WomenInLeadership #DiversityAndInclusion #GenderEquality #AustralianBusiness #LeadershipDevelopment
