Since 2018, there has been a significant decline in the percentage of women serving as CEOs or chairpersons in public companies in Israel, with women comprising 23.4% of board members in the tech sector, according to Deloitte. I read today an article (https://lnkd.in/d_YRry27) in Calcalist כלכליסט, an Israeli business journal, addressing a troubling issue: the persistent challenges in integrating women into leading managerial roles. The article draws from Deliotte Haskins & Sells’s recent paper, revealing that female representation in leading companies remains alarmingly low, hovering around 25%. In an age of equality and progress, one would hope for more significant strides after years of discussion and legislation on this topic. How do we dismantle this glass ceiling? Past laws seemed promising, but it's evident that greater regulatory efforts are needed. Ensuring higher equality in publicly traded companies should be a priority, supported by investors who recognize the value of diverse leadership. Let's be clear: advocating for women in managerial roles isn't about tokenism. It's about recognizing talent and experience, regardless of gender. My limited personal experience has shown me that fostering diverse leadership, with more than 50% women managers, can be challenging to built, yet it proves to be crucial for the organization's success. This is a principle that I am committed to in any company I am involved with. Unfortunately, outdated perceptions persist, often favoring male CEOs over their equally qualified female counterparts. I firmly believe that diversity drives success in organizations. It's not just a matter of doing what's right; it's essential for growth and prosperity. According to the article, if we fail to act decisively, we could be waiting another 90 years to achieve gender equality in Israel.

🎉 Thrilled to announce the publication of my first co-authored academic article, Representation of Gender Images of Female Military in the Ukrainian Media, with Tamara Martsenyuk in NaUKMA Research Papers. Sociology, an academic peer-reviewed open-access journal. Our study examines portrayals of female military personnel in Ukrainian media since the full-scale Russian invasion. By doing qualitative content analysis and applying both theoretical foundations of patriarchal and egalitarian approaches to gender roles, we uncover persistent stereotypes alongside emerging trends toward gender neutrality and sensitivity. Based on 48 media pieces from 2022–2024, we highlight both the challenges female soldiers face and how their contributions are framed within traditional gender roles. I'm grateful for this opportunity to contribute to the dialogue on gender and representation in war settings. Historic Milestone for Women's Representation in Kyrgyzstan! For the first time, Kyrgyzstan has achieved 42% women representation in local councils! This groundbreaking achievement is a direct result of progressive gender reforms in legislation, including the promotion of mandatory gender quotas. Our legislation ensures that no more than 70% of seats are held by one gender, a stark contrast to combined quotas in neighboring Kazakhstan, where we are now witnessing a decline in women’s representation. This milestone underscores an essential lesson: mandatory gender quotas are a crucial first step toward creating a more equitable society. While we strive for a world where such measures are no longer necessary, the reality is that they remain indispensable for ensuring women have a seat at the table. However, quotas alone are not enough. As scholars Childs and Krook emphasize, numerical representation must translate into substantive representation. It’s not just about the numbers; it’s about empowering women to influence decision-making and championing policies that address the needs of all. Kyrgyzstan’s success is a beacon of hope and a call to action. Uzbekistan has made significant progress in advancing gender equality and rose from 103 place in 2022 to 52 in 2024, as highlighted in the 2024 Gender Equality and Governance Index (GEGI). We hope that our recent work contributed to Uzbekistan achievements in reaching the equality. WinDt made assessment and made recommendations on bridging Uzbekistan Gender Digital Divide Assessment. Our work identified barriers women face in accessing digital tools and recommends strategies to continue to close the gender digital gap. Today, as we mark the three-year anniversary of the registration of Draft Law No. 5488 in the Verkhovna Rada, we at Gender Stream, together with ZMINA Human Rights Center and other allies, renew our call to our lawmakers. This law, pivotal in combating discrimination and intolerance, stands as a beacon of hope for many who have faced marginalization and injustice in our society. Draft Law No. 5488 proposes essential amendments that aim to reduce discrimination against socially vulnerable groups, enhance mechanisms for responding to and investigating hate crimes, and close legal gaps by including protections based on sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, ethnicity, and social origin. Its adoption is not just a legislative action but a bold step toward fostering a more inclusive, respectful, and democratic Ukraine. We are proud to be part of a coalition of 30 organizations and activists championing this cause, advocating for the rights of internally displaced persons, individuals with disabilities, migrants, national and ethnic minorities, and LGBTQI+ community members among others. This is our collective effort to ensure that every individual in Ukraine feels safe, respected, and valued. The adoption of this law is also crucial for Ukraine’s image on the international stage, enhancing our collaboration with other nations and key international bodies. It reflects our commitment to the values of democracy and human rights—cornerstones of our aspirations for European integration.
