Last Friday was nothing short of extraordinary. I had the honor of spending it among world leaders at the Special Competitive Studies Project - SCSP confrence in collaboration with the Harvard Kennedy School Harvard's Belfer Center where #innovation and #security took center stage. The room was filled with visionaries, strategists, and #changemakers—all deeply committed to shaping a more competitive and secure future for the global community. Yet, amidst the inspiring conversations and groundbreaking ideas, one truth became evident: our pace is not keeping up with the #urgency of the #challenges we face. From #emergingtechnologies to global #security threats, the world is changing faster than our #collectiveactions to address them. We are making progress, but progress without speed risks irrelevance. Now is the time for us to: -Embrace #bold #action: #Incremental change is no longer sufficient. We must prioritize #transformative #solutions that meet the moment. -#Strengthen #collaboration: True innovation comes from working across sectors, #geographies, and #disciplines. -#Lead with urgency: The window of opportunity to act decisively is narrowing every day. With technologies like AI, quantum computing, and hypersonic flight gaining traction in both military and civilian sectors. Quantum Sensing Applied to RADAR. Quantum radar, a theoretical application of quantum mechanics to radar technology, has sparked significant debate in the scientific and defense communities. Quantum RADAR is purported to benefit from enhanced sensitivity of quantum detection of entangled states. Quantum radar could potentially be more resistant to jamming and spoofing because any attempt to measure or interfere with the quantum state of the entangled particles, makes such attacks easier to detect. Quantum radar could potentially outperform classical RADAR in environments with high clutter, such as air-ground, space-ground or in urban areas or densely forested regions. Quantum states are fragile and can easily be disrupted by environmental factors, leading to a loss of the entanglement that the radar system relies on. The practical challenges of generating, maintaining, and measuring entangled particles on the scales required for radar applications are immense.  Quantum radar would require highly specialized equipment and conditions, such as extremely low temperatures or complex photon detectors, making it far more expensive than classical radar systems. The US DOD has weighed in and suggested quantum RADAR “will not provide upgraded capability to DOD”[4,6]. Researchers have suggested [1,2] quantum RADAR advantage of Q=2 with Q=1.2 measured[5]. While quantum radar promises significant advantages, particularly in terms of sensitivity, resistance to interference, and operation in cluttered environments, these benefits come with considerable technical and practical challenges. The controversy surrounding quantum radar reflects broader debates about the feasibility of applying quantum technologies in large-scale, real-world applications, and whether these new systems will ultimately offer a substantial improvement over existing technologies. Humanity has experienced 40 centuries of civilization, of which war is part of this system. We are now in the last of 40 centuries where our species will design, direct, and control conflict as we understand it currently. 2. The last natural-born, unmodified human soldier that will enter future conflicts may already have been born. 3. AGI, specifically those that lead to a Singleton Construct, represent a greater existential threat and a more transformative/disruptive arms race than even the nuclear arms race. Interested? Following the Army’s prototype award for its next-generation ground system to collect and disseminate sensor data, the service is setting its sights on fleshing out production plans for the platform. The Army awarded Palantir a $178.4 million other transaction agreement in March for the Tactical Intelligence Targeting Access Node (TITAN). The system is a critical modernization component for the service’s multi-domain operations concept because it will integrate various types of data from numerous platforms — such as space, high-altitude aerial and terrestrial — to help commanders make sense of a fast-moving and complex battlefield. The effort is unique in that it’s one of the first major programs steeped in artificial intelligence, with a software vendor acting as the prime.
